Chapter 10: Further Diagnosis — There’s no red pocket inside.
Ye Zhen Zhen sat on her bed for a long while before she let out this breath of anger. Although it was early, as indicated by the color of the sky, she had no intention of sleeping again. She took a bath before rummaging through her armoire for the least lacy dress she had. She changed and descended to the first floor.
The living room was very quiet, the only occasional slight noise that could be heard coming from within the kitchen. She supposed it was housekeeper Zhou preparing breakfast. Glancing in the direction of the dining hall, she saw that her uncle and aunt were not present. They must have not gotten out of bed yet. It seemed that she could eat breakfast in silence.
“Miss, why are you up so early?” Housekeeper Zhou saw Ye Zhen Zhen sitting at the dining table and asked this while she set down what she was holding. Ye Zhen Zhen merely smiled and nodded. In any case, she couldn’t say that she didn’t dare to sleep again because of a nightmare, right?
“Breakfast is nearly ready. Please wait a moment.” Housekeeper Zhou bowed and returned to the kitchen. Ye Zhen Zhen stared after her departing figure, looking pensive. Yesterday, she had overheard housekeeper Zhou and Zhou Wen’s conversation. People who were even the slightest bit unable to remain calm would definitely have given a detailed explanation, but housekeeper Zhou didn’t react whatsoever. It seemed that as long as she herself didn’t inquire, housekeeper Zhou would treat this matter as if it had never happened.
In addition, she felt that even if she took the initiative and asked, housekeeper Zhou would have long prepared an absolutely safe answer.
While Ye Zhen Zhen was in a daze, housekeeper Zhou served breakfast. When she left the house, Ye Kang Ping and his wife were coming downstairs. Pretending as if she hadn’t seen them, Ye Zhen Zhen fully concentrated on walking over to the black limousine that had been waiting outside.
The chauffeur of this vehicle was the same person who had greeted her last time. According to housekeeper Zhou’s introduction, his family name was Wu, and he had worked for the Ye Family for five years. Ye Zhen Zhen had called him Uncle Wu.
Uncle Wu was not a talkative person, but he was very courteous to her. Ye Zhen Zhen’s impression of him was not bad. This ‘not bad’ impression, after he helped Ye Zhen Zhen meet Dr. Ji again with lightning speed upgraded to ‘excellent.’
She held a number ticket in her hands while gazing at the queue window. Even though it was very early in the morning at the moment, Dr. Ji already had a long queue of patients. She also didn’t know what Uncle Wu was going to do.
With Uncle Wu waiting at ground level, Ye Zhen Zhen walked upstairs alone. The consulting rooms in Central Hospital all had small LED display screens on the door with the doctor’s name written on it. Ye Zhen Zhen didn’t even walk several paces down the hallway before catching sight of an LED screen above her head displaying three words——Ji Zhe Yan.
Only three simple words, yet they nevertheless caused Ye Zhen Zhen’s heart to skip. Pu-tong. It was as if she had caught sight of the guy of her dreams.
Thinking of Dr. Ji being right behind this door, Ye Zhen Zhen nearly pushed the door open to enter. Unfortunately, there were still three more people sitting on a bench in the hallway. She had no choice but to sit at the end of the line beside them.
Coincidentally, the three people in front simultaneously looked at her. At the very front of the line was a middle-aged couple who looked to be husband and wife. Just in front of Y

e Zhen Zhen was a young girl, who she a.s.sumed to be a university student. This girl had previously been looking down and playing with her cell phone, but now she curiously sized up Ye Zhen Zhen. Her expression seemed to say——this kind of extremely rich Miss High and Mighty also personally comes to a hospital to visit a doctor?
Ye Zhen Zhen was somewhat embarra.s.sed. As the proverb went, ‘A person dons garments while a horse dons a saddle.’ From the top of her head to the bottom of her toes, including the bow to bind her hair back, they were all taken from the Miss Ye Zhen Zhen’s room. Every item, from their craftsmanship to their design were all high-end Western style. Even someone who didn’t understand luxury goods could tell that these things were considerably expensive.
She smiled at the three others, and that couple turned their heads back to face the front. Only that university-student-looking girl continued to stare at her. “Your clothes are Bunny’s custom-made apparel. I saw it in a magazine.”
Ye Zhen Zhen’s eyes widened. This is also custom-made apparel from Bunny? Her previous self must have loved this brand.
The female student saw that she didn’t reply and once again asked bluntly, “How much money did you spend on it?”
Ye Zhen zhen said, “I’m not very sure. Someone else gave it to me.”
The female student winked mischievously. “Boyfriend?”
Ye Zhen Zhen giggled before changing the topic. “Are you also here to see Dr. Ji? Where are you feeling ill?”
“Oh, my menstruation cycle is irregular.”
Ye Zhen Zhen: “…”
She stared at the female student beside her, a slight expression of disbelief on her face. “Dr. Ji also deals with gynecology?”
“He doesn’t, but I just want to turn over his card.”
Ye Zhen Zhen: “…”
Dr. Ji really was the leader of this Central Hospital in every sense.
After waiting nearly twenty minutes, that female student sitting beside her entered the consulting room. As it was finally her turn next, Ye Zhen Zhen was slightly nervous. Just as she breathed out, her cell phone vibrated twice in her bag. She glanced at her phone and saw that Qin Kong had sent her a SMS.
「Your pillow is in my hands. If you want it returned, share a meal with me tonight. Phantom Thief with Twenty Faces·Qin Kong」1
Ye Zhen Zhen: “…”
“You tore the ticket.” When she processed these four words, Ye Zhen Zhen turned off her phone. Sure enough, in a place like the hospital, she really should turn off her phone in advance!
Just as she turned off her phone, she caught sight of the female student leaving the consulting room. She couldn’t help but ask in surprise, “So quickly?”
“Hehe.” She drew her lips back to reveal an enchanted smile. “I was driven out; my ticket was also invalidated. I just like seeing Dr. Ji be at odds with my appearance.”
Ye Zhen Zhen: “…”
She silently rose from her chair and patted her shoulder. “You should go register for psychiatry, okay? There’s still time.”
Female Student: “…”
She turned and left, but by then, Ye Zhen Zhen had already closed the door of the consulting room.
Ji Zhe Yan heard the door close and automatically lifted his head to take a glance. Ye Zhen Zhen stood perfectly straight in front of the door, somewhat rigid.
Ji Zhe Yan didn’t say anything. Ye Zhen Zhen stammered, “D-d-d-doctor Ji, I came for further diagnosis!”
Ji Zhe Yan nodded and pointed at the empty chair across from him. “Take a seat.”
Ye Zhen Zhen sat down as he instructed. Then, as if she recalled something, she set down the hospital registration number ticket along with the macarons onto the table.
Ji Zhe Yan slid the hospital registration number to the side and asked, “Have you taken your medicine these past two days?”
Ye Zhen Zhen’s mood suddenly changed subtly. Why did she always feel as if Dr. Ji was scolding her in a roundabout manner? Still, she replied honestly, “Every day, I eat my medicine exactly on time and as prescribed.”
Ji Zhe Yan nodded, seemingly satisfied with this answer. “Have you been feeling unwell anywhere?”
Ye Zhen Zhen frowned. Ji Zhe Yan set down his fountain pen and asked. “What happened? Does your head hurt again?”
Ye Zhen Zhen pursed her lips and said, “Dr. Ji, I had a nightmare last night. I dreamt of that person pushing me down the stairs.”
Ji Zhe Yan’s brows furrowed together. For the first time, Ye Zhen Zhen saw a grave expression on his face. “Have you told Office Zuo?”
Ye Zhen Zhen shook her head. “No, I only saw a shadow. Telling Officer Zuo would be useless.”
Ji Zhe Yan thought for a moment before saying, “Don’t put too much stress on yourself. When you have time, go out for walks more often and bask in the sun. Don’t always stay hidden in the hous.”
Ye Zhen Zhen made a sound of agreement. Ji Zhe Yan continued, “Your medicine is enough for one week’s consumption. Next time when you come, I’ll give you more prescription medicine. Oh, that’s right. Every Thursday mornings will I be here taking examinations and administering medical treatments. Other days, try to find me over at the inpatient department.”
“Okay.” Ye Zhen Zhen nodded. She pushed the macarons over to him. “Dr. Ji, these are my gift to you.”
Ji Zhe Yan glanced at them but didn’t accept them. “Hospital regulation; can’t accept gifts from patients.”
“Oh, these are merely some simple macarons. There’s no red pocket! There’s also no bank card!”
Ji Zhe Yan: “…”
He refused the macarons and said to Ye Zhen Zhen, “Macarons have a lot of calories, and the flavor is also sweet and unctuous. Eating a lot is not good for the body. You also should eat a bit less of this.”
Ye Zhen Zhen stared at the small, ignored case of macarons and silently accepted them back. Ji Zhe Yan stared at her for a moment before finally opening his mouth to say, “If there’s nothing else, then call in the next patient.”
Ye Zhen Zhen, simply feeling wronged, wanted to cry on the spot for him to see, but then she recalled that there really were several more patients waiting outside. She had no choice but to nod. “Then Dr. Ji, may I treat you for a meal?”
Ji Zhe Yan was silent for a moment. In the end, he didn’t refuse again. “I probably won’t finish until 12:00PM.”
“That’s okay; I’ll wait for you!” Ye Zhen Zhen raised her head, her eyes glistening as she gazed at him. Seeing Ji Zhe Yan nod, she left, perfectly content. Looking at the time, she saw that it was a little past 9:00AM. There was still three more hours left. What should she do to pa.s.s the time? She had her chauffeur drive her around the neighborhood, where she found a bookstore on a side street. She ordered a gla.s.s of water and intended to find a book to read. Uncle Wu went for a walk as she instructed, only to return at 12:00PM to take her back to the hospital.
There were an abundance of books inside. She looked around for awhile and realized that this place also had 《The Sleeping Little Boy》, so she decided to read this book. Due to her self-preservation awareness, Ye Zhen Zhen didn’t choose a seat by the windows or doors; instead, she looked for a nook. Although this spot was nothing out of the ordinary, it allowed her to have a panoramic view of the store.
But despite doing something like this, she still continued to feel as if someone was staring at her. She frowned and looked around, but she didn’t find anyone suspicious. Don’t tell me that I’m being too paranoid? Perhaps she really was placing too much pressure on herself.
Time pa.s.sed by quickly as she read. Unknowingly, it had became 11:30AM. Ye Zhen Zhen paid her bill and walked in the direction of the Central Hospital. Although Dr. Ji had said 12:00PM, he had to stay until he truly finished seeing all the patients. By then, it was 12:40PM. He left the consulting room and saw Ye Zhen Zhen sitting by herself outside. He didn’t know why, but his heart suddenly felt pained. After he pondered for a long while, he realized that it was because he hated to make her wait by herself for such a long time.
“I’m sorry for making you wait for so long.”
Ye Zhen Zhen caught sight of Ji Zhe Yan and immediately stood up, spirit trembling with excitement. “It’s fine. Dr. Ji, what do you want to eat for lunch?”
“I need to return to my office to change clothes first. Let’s go together.” Because he didn’t want to make her wait alone again, he deliberately said these words.
I can see Dr. Ji change clothes? Ye Zhen Zhen was naturally overjoyed. “Okay!” Only when she entered the office later did Ye Zhen Zhen realize that she was, as expected, dreaming too much. What Dr. Ji had meant when he said ‘change clothes’ was to take off his white lab coat and change it for a suit jacket, nothing more.
#Not even showing skin, yet you still have the nerve to say you’re changing clothes? #
Ye Zhen Zhen thought, The most basic trust between two people isn’t like this.2
