Chapter 2: Chuunibyou — Please save him
Ye Zhen Zhen
Female
21 Years Old
A City University, Department of Finance and Economics1
Third-Year University Undergraduate Student
Was in a traffic accident six years ago with mother Ye Ruo Han (38), father Xue Ming (40)—both died in the traffic accident.
Zuo Yi couldn’t help but smile when he looked at the profile of Ye Zhen Zhen in his hand.
“Quickly, look! Leader’s smiling again!”
“f.u.c.k, Leader hadn’t really taken a fancy of that Ye Zhen Zhen, right?”
“So what if he’s taking a fancy for her? Unless, you dare to steal his girl?”
“Don’t dare, don’t dare. Who would dare to fight with leader over a woman! I still want to live a few more years.”
“Hey, you still have to admit—that girl with the surname Ye is really pretty.”
“She’s also not yours.”
As soon as Zuo Yi’s gaze swept over the group of chattering men lightly, the bureau immediately fell silent. All of them adopted an ‘I’m-very-busy’ appearance, doing their utmost not to meet Zuo Yi’s gaze.
Zuo Yi quirked his lips, before finally laying down the report in his hand. He turned to look outside the window.
At first, he had believed that if Ye Zhen Zhen woke up, then he could find the murderer. He didn’t expect that she would actually wake up very quickly but had lost her memory. According to Zuo Yi’s previous observations, she didn’t seem to be lying, but this amnesiac incident is indeed slightly strange.
Hypothetically, if she was pretending to lose her memory, what was her motivation? In this type of situation, her being amnesiac would benefit the murderer the most, but why would she shield the murderer? Could it be that the murderer’s ident.i.ty was extraordinary? Right, rumors said that she had a fiancé.
Zuo Yi’s brows furrowed. He picked up another report from the table, flipping it open.
Qin Kong
Male
25 Years Old
Graduated XX University, School of Business
Qin Shi Jie’s Third Son
Currently Qin Zhi Corporation’s Product Manager
Arranged Engagement with the Victim’s Granddaughter, Ye Zhen Zhen
Zuo Yi clicked his tongue. These great families loved to connect businesses by marriage. The granddaughter hadn’t graduated from university yet, but she had been engaged for two years already. Furthermore, this Qin Kong, even though he went abroad to get a layer of gold-plating2, Zuo Yi also hadn’t seen him accomplish anything big these past few years in Qin Zhi Corporation. Would Ye Zhen Zhen pretend to lose her memory for him?
Zuo Yi stared at the portrait of Qin Kong for two seconds before shaking his head. He didn’t look as handsome as Dr. Ji. Zuo Yi gauged that Qin Kong wouldn’t have the means to deceive the little lady.
“Achoo——!” Qin Kong rubbed the tip of his nose before continuing to stare lovingly at Ye Zhen Zhen lying atop the hospital bed. “Zhen Zhen, I am your Kong Kong. Do you really not remember me anymore?”
Ye Zhen Zhen shook

her head.
Qin Kong— Damage +1000!
He extended his left hand and waved it in front of Ye Zhen Zhen’s face. “Zhen Zhen, look! This is our engagement ring. When you graduate, we will officially marry.”
Ye Zhen Zhen looked at the delicate silver ring on his finger, but she still shook her head.
Qin Kong— Damage +1000!
He clutched his heart, retreating to the side to heal.
Seeing that he had calmed down, Sun Qian walked forward, all smiles. “Ah, Zhen Zhen, are you used to living in the hospital? If you need anything, just tell auntie. Auntie will return home to retrieve it for you.”
Home? Ye Zhen Zhen’s brows rose slightly. She looked at the woman amiably smiling at her and asked, “How is the situation at home?”
Sun Qian’s smile finally stiffened. She patted Ye Zhen Zhen’s shoulder consolingly and said, “Home is now swarmed with the police, but feel rea.s.sured, your maternal uncle will handle it well.”
The light in Ye Zhen Zhen’s eyes flashed slightly. No wonder she hadn’t seen her maternal uncle these past two days. So, he was at home handling this matter? She thought for a moment before asking Sun Qian, “Two days have already pa.s.sed, so why is home still swarmed with the police?”
“This…” Sun Qian hollowly laughed. “I heard that the murder weapon used to kill your maternal grandfather has yet to be found.”
“Maybe the murder weapon is a leg of a lamb?” Qin Kong, who had originally withdrawn to the side, had heard this conversation and suddenly exclaimed, “I previously read a murdery mystery where the wife used a frozen lamb leg to kill her husband. She then cooked the lamb leg and ate it. The police looked for it for a lifetime but ultimately were unable to find the murder weapon!” 3
Ye Zhen Zhen looked at the large ‘detective’ word hanging over his head and couldn’t help but splash him with cold water. “I heard the police officer say that my maternal grandfather was stabbed to death with a sharp weapon.”
“Sharp weapon…” Qin Kong scratched his curly head, lost in thought.
Kacha.
A slight noise sounded as the door opened. A man dressed in a white labcoat sedately walked in.
“Dr. Ji.” Ye Zhen Zhen caught sight of Ji Zhe Yan and subconsciously smiled at him.
Qin Kong’s thick eyebrows furrowed together.
Ji Zhe Yan nodded toward Ye Zhen Zhen and then looked at the other two people in the room. “Visiting hours are over. The patient now needs her rest.”
Qin Kong forced his way past Ji Zhe Yan and walked towards Ye Zhen Zhen’s hospital bed. He sat near the top of the bed and grabbed her hand, holding it within his and not letting go. “I’m not leaving. Zhen Zhen needs me; I won’t leave her.”
Ye Zhen Zhen frowned slightly and tried to pull her hand out of his. “I think I need more medical treatment.”
Ji Zhe Yan glanced at Qin Kong. “I think he needs medical treatment even more.”
Qing Kong: “…”
Ye Zhen Zhen looked at Ji Zhe Yan, her expression one of complete surprise. Did Dr. Ji just make a cold joke?
Although Qin Kong was being ridiculed, he still tenaciously held onto Ye Zhen Zhen’s hand.
A knock resounded from the door. “Sorry for the disturbance, but is Mr. Qin Kong in there?”
Qin Kong turned his head around and caught sight of two men wearing police uniforms at the door.
Although Zuo Yi was the one asked, he clearly didn’t need an answer from the other party. He glanced at the head of curly hair before directly walking in. “I heard Mr. Qin had returned from abroad, so I came over to record a statement.”
Qin Kong stared at him blankly for a moment before his eyes suddenly brightened. “Officer, I think I know what the murderer was thinking!”
“Oh?” Zuo Yi’s mouth quirked up. He nodded. “Speak.”
“The Ye family is a family clan. Do you know whether or not some black-clothed organization was spying on them?” He stood up from his stool, scratching his curly head out of habit. “If it’s like this, wouldn’t Zhen Zhen be in great danger? Those black-clothed men could return at any time to kill and silence her!”
Qin Kong jumped back a little in fright at the thought of this hypothetical threat before suddenly throwing himself at Ye Zhen Zhen’s hospital bed again. He gripped her hand. “Zhen Zhen, you don’t need to be afraid. I will protect you!”
He solemnly creased his brows, sinking into a soliloquy. “Those black-clothed men normally will have code names. Perhaps there’s a Gin and Vodka, or maybe a J and K. Ah, that’s right!”4 He raised his head, changing his expression to one full of tenderness. His voice became deep as he said, “Zhen Zhen, even if you become little, I will definitely be able to recognize you with a glance.”5
Ye Zhen Zhen: “…”
She withdrew her hand from Qin Kong’s once more. She looked at Ji Zhe Yan with a sincere expression. “Dr. Ji, please save him.”
Ji Zhe Yan swept his gaze to Qin Kong, and using a completely professional voice, he stated, “Late stage Eighth Grade Syndrome, he should spend a lot of his time roaming around a theme park.”
Ye Zhen Zhen said in disbelief, “Visiting a theme park can treat Eighth Grade Syndrome?”
“No, but it’ll allow him to get through the rest of his life cheerfully.”
Ye Zhen Zhen: “…”
At the moment, she was certain that Dr. Ji had just made a cold joke.
Zuo Yi coughed, pulling everyone’s attention toward him. “Nothing has been stolen from the Ye family. We have already eliminated the possibility of robbery. This is definitely a deliberate murder, so Mr. Qin’s black-clothed organization should be completely nonexistent.”
“No no no,” Qin Kong clearly didn’t approve of Zuo Yi’s words. “The black-clothed organization’s motivation might not necessarily be money; it could also be…some secret concerning the matter of life and death for humanity.”
……
Ye Zhen Zhen suddenly felt a bit more pressure after his words.
Zuo Yi silently stared at Qin Kong, who suddenly felt his breathing become a little unsteady. He took a deep breath, barely managing to squeeze out a smile for Zuo Yi. “Just then, you said you wanted to record a statement?”
The severity of Zuo Yi’s gaze finally lessened slightly. Qin Kong breathed out a sigh of relief.
“The night of the incident, that is, the 13th of March, from 7 o’clock to 9 o’clock in the evening, where were you?”
Qin Kong answered, “My home.”
“Is there someone who can testify?”
“I stayed in my room the entire time. I only left when I heard that something happened at the branch office. That very night, I rushed to go abroad.”
Zuo Yi paused, before saying, “What time did you leave your home?”
“Roughly 8:40PM. You can ask my elder brother this; we left the house together.”
“When did you return?”
“Yesterday. I heard that something bad had happened to Zhen Zhen, so I rushed to come back here in the afternoon. I arrived last night, but visiting hours were already over. I was only able to visit early this morning.” Finished speaking, Qing Kong looked resentfully at Zuo Yi. “You wouldn’t happen to be suspecting me of killing my maternal grandfather, or even of pushing Zhen Zhen down the stairs, would you? Zhen Zhen is my fiancée; how could I do this to her!”
“This, we will determine ourselves.” Zuo Yi closed his notebook and glanced toward the hospital bed. “Miss Ye, what this Mr. Qin said isn’t entirely nonsense. You might have seen the face of the murderer, and he might actually return to kill you to silence you.”
Ye Zhen Zhen’s complexion paled. She understood what he was implying. This circ.u.mstance truly wasn’t something that could be guarded against. She thought for a moment before looking at Zuo Yi and speaking. “Officer Zuo, if I saw the murderer, then why didn’t he confirm whether I really had died before leaving the scene?” The murderer probably wasn’t careless enough to leave a living witness. In addition, if they wanted to kill her, why did they choose to push her down the stairs instead of directly using the murder weapon that killed her maternal grandfather to kill her?
Zuo Yi listened to her questions and somewhat thoughtfully stared at her. “According to our conjectures, the murderer might have pushed you down the stairs while fighting with you, and may not have had enough time to confirm your death. As your maternal uncle and his wife had finally arrived to the crime scene, he had no choice but to leave.”
Ye Zhen Zhen buried her head and didn’t speak again. Zuo Yi looked at her for a spell before saying, “You don’t need to be very worried. I will dispatch officers to guard the hospital.”
Finished speaking, he glanced at the man beside him. The two of them left together.
Returning to the car, Zuo Yi lit a cigarette, drawing smoke as he wrinkled his eyebrows and pondered on the case.
“Leader, Hao Zi spoke with Qin Lang and their chauffeur, confirming his statement. They really did leave their home at approximately 8:40PM.” Li Xin Ran opened the car door, sitting in the driver’s seat. “Sun Qian and her husband called the police at 9:03PM. If the murderer had just left the scene, then Qin Jong’s claim of not being present holds.”
Zuo Yi laughed and turned his head to glance at him. “I think this case isn’t that simple.”
Li Xin Ran raised his eyebrows, waiting for him to continue.
“Just then, I only mentioned one type of scenario. It is also possible that the murderer deliberately left a living witness, with the intention of having Ye Zhen Zhen to speak a statement in their favor, but they didn’t expect her to lose her memory. Another probable scenario is that Qin Kong and his elder brother bribed their chauffeur to lie. After all, this sudden departure abroad, doesn’t it seem somewhat fake?”
Li Xin Ran thought for a moment before nodding.
“Furthermore, it’s possible that the Sun couple did not call the police the moment they discovered the scene.”
Li Xin Ran frowned. “What does that mean?”
Zuo Yi pressed his cigarette against the car’s ashtray, extinguishing it. “Inform Hao Zi and the rest to keep a 24 hour watch on the hospital.”
