Chapter 192: Automatic Fire
Fat Chef never thought that Three would actually inform him about the meeting. It made him excited, so he boiled up a wok of hot water early in the morning and cleaned himself up, then found a new suit, making him bear the style of a boss, just that this boss kept on nodding his head towards Zhang Xiao Qiang, almost as though he was pandering to Zhang Xiao Qiang.
“Brother c.o.c.kroach….the seeds you gave me….the last time….has germinated….” Upon hearing the complete sentence spoken in stammers by Fat Chef, Zhang Xiao Qiang immediately stood up and stared at him with a burning gaze. Fat Chef was so overwhelmed by Zhang Xiao Qiang’s movements that he cowered back down to his seat in fear until he saw the praise in his eyes and calmed down. He then repeated his report to Zhang Xiao Qiang….Zhang Xiao Qiang had previously given Chef a few seeds to be grown as he had thought about it. Giving Chef, a man knowledgeable in food science and cooking a few vegetable seeds to grow as crops in their best seasons, would naturally be able to produce some yield. Chef grew these seeds in pots that were not large, thus the ultimate yield would not be high.
Three-quarters of the 30 odd ladies brought back from the shelter at the foot of the mountain were a.s.signed under Zhang Xiao Qiang, with two who used to rely on growing crops for a living. They helped Fat Chef around in the kitchen and loosened up soil at an empty spot, found and mixed in base fertilizer into the soil and found people to help build a shack to maintain the temperature inside as constant as possible. Due to their efforts, a few of the crops had grown up to around 15cm. Originally, Fat Chef had wanted to wait for the crops to become edible and surprise Zhang Xiao Qiang, but he never expected to be invited to partic.i.p.ate in the meeting, seeing that everyone else was reporting about their work, he contemplated for a long time and felt that there was nothing to report about his work, and his mind drifted to his young crops. Upon hesitating about whether to report it or not, he saw Zhang Xiao Qiang’s gaze at him and immediately felt uneasy…..
Only Zhang Xiao Qiang and He Wen Bin were left in the room. Zhang Xiao Qiang looked at He Wen Bin, who was becoming more depressed, and spoke: “The situation in the base is still fine, right? Are there any movements from Three’s side?”
He Wen Bin shook his head, then looked at Zhang Xiao Qiang and reported: “Everything is fine, it is just that we are tight on ammunition….”
Zhang Xiao Qiang interrupted him: “Didn’t we have close to 10 million bullets? Why so anxious? Or did someone do something?”
He Wen Bin shook his head….Zhang Xiao Qiang had plenty of rifle bullets in this a.r.s.enal with a total of at the very least 7 million, the rest being a.s.sault rifles and carbine bullets with heavy machine guns being the least. The five sets of machine guns had a total of fewer than 300 thousand bullets, and following Zhang Xiao Qiang’s few large-scale zombie wipeouts, the machine guns were left with a little more than half of the original amount. Even so, Zhang Xiao Qiang increased the combat team size again, the remaining bullets could not possibly last for a long time. The heavy machine guns were best used for defense and according to the situation, the machine guns would simply be decorations inside the completed perimeter walls. By any chance, if an organization or zombie hordes were to attack the base, they could only rely on their rifles to retaliate. Ordinary zombies could still be suppressed, but they had no chance against a D2. The machine guns could be used to suppress the D2 at close range, and if the machine gunners were to improve their marksmanship and land all their shots on their targets, it might even be possible to kill off a D2!
Zhang Xiao Qiang was tongue-tied, he was a wasteful person and enjoyed showing off anything he had, in which his subordinates had picked up as well. So long as they could spray their guns, they would do so instead of firing in bursts. As long as they could fire for long periods of time, they would never time their fires and fire in short durations. After their battles, the report had been consolidated, they no longer had support from the heavy machine guns and their automatic firepower was no longer sufficient. They no longer held the capabilities of clearing a zombie horde with over a thousand zombies. Even though they had plenty AK-56 on hand and could be subst.i.tuted as light machine guns with sufficient bullets, it used the same bullets as the Type-81 a.s.sault rifles, upon thinking about the .56* in the a.r.s.enal, Zhang Xiao Qiang’s heart trembled….
Barbs of steel wires covered the top of the wall in front of them. The black electric-powered steel doors were opened, revealing a row of short but st.u.r.dy structures. Around 10 scattered zombies started to stroll out to the open s.p.a.ce opposite the doors. A prison was built in the center of the open s.p.a.ce without any trees or any other structures around, but at the four corners of the wall stood tall sentry towers. The white outer walls, white sentry mounds alongside the steel barbed wires and the black steel doors formed the initial form of the prison. Without even going in, any pa.s.serby would shudder just from the view of the exterior.
Zhang Xiao Qiang stood on the roof of the Land Rover with a pair of binoculars as he slowly surveyed the surroundings. 10 fully equipped combat team members stood beside the vehicle and waited, the equipment and weapons they had were differentiated into two types. These 10, led by Three, were all equipped with stab-proof clothes along with police-issued bulletproof vests, their heads protected with helmets made out of polymers. In their hands were QBZ-95 AR with 9mm QSZ-92 pistols holstered to their right thighs. Zhang Xiao Qiang had brought out all the equipment for the mission and had Three pick out 9 members who had served the army previously to form an elite team with the best equipment and weapons given out to them. As for the rest, they were still equipped with the M1 Garand rifles. Zhang Xiao Qiang had wanted to change their weapons to AK-56s, but upon thinking about them having to familiarize themselves with the new weapons, he did not bother with it.
Three looked at the familiar and slightly run-down steel doors. At that time, over a dozen men rushed in and only half of them managed to escape. Having to enter once again, his heart was anxious. The 9 elites were equally tensed, it was not a lie that they had served the army before, but they had never experienced warfare. Many of them had followed Zhang Xiao Qiang to kill zombies before, but they had never experienced fighting with zombies at close quarters in narrow s.p.a.ces before, and even while wielding their a.s.sault rifles, they felt as though they were as defenseless without it.
In this run, it could be considered that Zhang Xiao Qiang was prepared. At the very start, he had Three explain the real situation of the prison. They knew that the majority of the cells were sealed, although there were a few thousand zombies inside, the majority of them had no way of leaving the cells. As for the zombies that managed to break out, they numbered to a few hundred. On their side, they had 50 odd men, all with experience in dealing with zombies, so Zhang Xiao Qiang and Three felt that there would not be many problems. The most crucial thing was that the zombies sealed inside the cells never had the opportunity to interact with the rainwater so the number of evolved zombies could not be many. Zhang Xiao Qiang believed that so long as they remained careful, they could not suffer from any casualties.
Zhang Xiao Qiang hopped down the Land Rover, opened the doors and started equipping himself. The Jing Wei Blade, Beast Horn Spear, Triangular spikes were all equipped. Zhang Xiao Qiang inspected the number of triangular spikes he had, then the Desert Eagle holster to his waist and dagger holstered at his thigh. After pondering for a bit, he took out a few grenades and clipped down onto his belt. By the time he finished equipping himself, Shangguan Qiao Yun who was standing at the side with her Garand Rifle stood behind him and opened the door. One black leather boots stepped out of the vehicle. A young man with a delicate face dressed in a black windbreaker stepped down of the vehicle with a long blade slung on his back stared at Zhang Xiao Qiang coldly.
Zhang Xiao Qiang looked at the handsome Guo Fei and felt extremely unhappy. Guo Fei’s manner of appearing was far cooler than him, but Zhang Xiao Qiang did not say much. Zhang Xiao Qiang finally understood what kind of person Guo Fei was. He was a lunatic, a lunatic that was looking to die, aside from cleaning zombies, he would hide in the shadows. He did not want anyone to see him, but of course, aside from the young girl called Mi Nan who followed behind him, no one else could even bother about him.
*- according to the web, the Type-81 a.s.sault rifle actually uses the 7.62mm bullets
