Chapter 80: Thinking of Rebelling?
Zhang Xiao Qiang was flabbergasted? Wasn’t she doing just fine? Her earlier performance had already gained his approval. Although she had not yet wrapped up the fight, it was not a fault of her. If she fought like that, any normal zombie would be finished easily. He had not stopped her purely to see her limits.
At the very least, her current performance had already outstripped Yang Ke’er of the past, even himself. He had kept his aim on her but he didn’t fire. Although he disliked her, he was not a petty man. As long as Yuan Yi reached his expectations, he was willing to accept her. Yet before her energy ran out, she had actually thrown her weapon down?! Was she giving up? Maybe she was accepting death? Zhang Xiao Qiang felt that it was such a pity!
Yang Ke’er became excited. She felt that Yuan Yi’s performance against the D-type was more exciting than staying behind the door to poke the zombies like frogs. Now, Yuan Yi was even trying to fight with her bare hands, which was even more thrilling than routing around the D-type. She became excited, her eyes widened in antic.i.p.ation, not daring to miss a single detail. All she was lacking was a Pepsi in her left hand and a box of popcorn in her right, and a sofa beneath her bottom to complete her horror movie viewing pleasure.
Su Qian was very different from Yang Ke’er when she had seen Yuan Yi stumble to the floor, she had brought her hands to her mouth. She was afraid to scream, fearing that it might distract Yuan Yi. When Yuan Yi had rolled around, she had pressed her hands to her chest, not able to withstand the terror. When Yuan Yi threw the weapon on the ground, Su Qian immediately shut her eyes when she saw the D-Type stumbling towards Yuan Yi. She peeked out of the gaps in her hands, ready to close her palms.
Yuan Yi watched as the D-Type stumble towards her with one useless leg. There was not a single trace of fear on her face. She didn’t stand at her original spot, instead, walking towards the middle of the corridor. As she a.s.sessed the zombie, her face was slightly flushed red, her brows raised high, her teeth biting her lips. Her body was trembling slightly, not from fear, but from the adrenaline and excitement.
Zhang Xiao Qiang saw the zombie reached out with its claw, not wasting any movement as it swiped towards her. Suddenly, Yuan Yi’s body moved slightly, and the D-Type’s body flew up. “Dong…” the D-Type crashed onto the ground, resulting in a cloud of dust. Zhang Xiao Qiang was wide-eyed with shock. Before he could even react further, the nimble figure of Yuan Yi landed on the zombie, and with a ‘kacha’ the zombie stopped moving.
As the dust settled, Yuan Yi’s curvy figure wrapped only in a sports bra was stepping atop the zombie’s body, her right leg dug in the throat of the D-Type. Its head was twisted sideways, and seeing it out-of-shape, it was obvious that its head had been stomped.
If there was a slow-motion camera, it would be able to showcase that Yuan Yi had dove into the grasp of the zombie, but before it could react, she had grabbed its right claw with both hands. She then bent down slightly, pulling its weight down, causing it to flip over. As it laid on the ground, she had jumped and broken its spine. It was a flawless victory.
This time Zhang Xiao Qiang truly had nothing to say. It didn’t seem that he was ever at her level?! At the very least, he knew he didn’t dare to engage in close quarter combat against any zombies, even if they were one-armed. Was this the same Yuan Yi that had p.i.s.sed her pants earlier? Was this the same woman who didn’t dare to utter a sound after being scolded by her? This was definitely not the same woman that had kept her anger quelled because she was afraid of being fed to the zombies.
Yang Ke’er was shocked, she looked at the D-Type on the ground, and then looked at Yuan Yi again. No matter how she racked her brains, she couldn’t understand how did the D-Type fly?
Su Qian stood one side, her emotions in a mess. She did not understand why the both of them had stepped out with similar statuses, herself even being at a higher position than Yuan Yi, but now Yuan Yi had suddenly changed. Zhang Xiao Qiang did not even hate Su Qian, but Yuan Yi had suddenly transformed so much? It was not even something that could be described as time, but she had actually changed so much right in front of her eyes?!
When Yuan Yi was killing those zombies behind the door, Su Qian was already feeling uncomfortable. When Yuan Yi was forced to engage the D-Type, Su Qian was still having mixed feelings. And when she was facing off with her bare hands, although Su Qian dared not look on the surface, didn’t she celebrate silently? Now that Yuan Yi had finished off such a terrifying monster like a warrior, why was her own heart feeling sour?
Yuan Yi held her head high and stuck out her chest as she walked towards Zhang Xiao Qiang. Her eyes were now filled with a fiery gaze, bright and unclouded. It was the first time she was looking at Zhang Xiao Qiang in his eyes, and her first time using such a challenging gaze. Her expression was calm, she did not express any joy at her victory. She didn’t have the lingering fear of having survived. Instead, she just looked at Zhang Xiao Qiang, as though nothing really mattered.
Zhang Xiao Qiang kept silent, nor did he move. He held Yuan Yi’s gaze straight, and he didn’t look at her with a hateful look. Instead, it was a calm and objective evaluation of her this time.
He suddenly noticed that Yuan Yi wasn’t short, her height slightly over 1.7m. She was even taller than himself, who was at 1.68m. In the past, she had always huddled herself, in a bid to make herself seem small. Hence it wasn’t as apparent. However, she was walking tall and proud now, and he suddenly felt like she was belittling him.
Zhang Xiao Qiang finally understood, why he had always found her irksome. It was not for any rubbish reason. The main reason was only one because he had always hated women taller than him using that condescending gaze on him. Although Yuan Yi herself had never used that sort of gaze, nor her current behavior now, an otaku was always sensitive. True, he had not discovered that she was actually taller than himself, but he must have felt it subconsciously, it was like him discovering that things had happened at night while he was camping in the past. The feeling wasn’t strong this time, but it had resulted in a dislike towards Yuan Yi, a sort of repulsion that a ‘macho’ man gets when faced with a taller woman.
“Thinking of rebelling?” As he thought that, he couldn’t help but straighten himself, and stare back at her. How many near-death experiences had he faced? She thought that he would be afraid of her? This little chick?
Zhang Xiao Qiang’s gaze became extremely fierce. His eyes were filled with a sort of deathly aura, not killing intent. It was the sort of aura that he had begun to emit having survived numerous life-threatening situations.
