Ascenders: Rising From Zero

Chapter 35

The Latent Stealth Dog circled the Horned Hind Bear, baring it"s fangs aggresively, totally unafraid of the raging aura of the bear. Within few seconds, he jumped in, on to the bear, seeing the bear had become dazed with trying to follow him around and

THWACK!

The business district of the dog homed on the unfortunate bear"s head, shattering its skull instantly.

Bayo howled, noting the increase in his strength since the encounter with the Love G.o.ddess. So much that even these Bears could be finished with one critical hit.

"Yasmin, Status."

"Progress." Over time, he had found that his bloodline type had changed to Mythic Type which meant that his power had increased much. Although, he still was unable to access the laws.

Soon, very soon, his soul refining would be complete and all his saved bloodlines will be of value then.

"Power! I don"t have enough... must have it more than I can take." He muttered, unconscious of the stirring of the Law of Gluttony within him.

Elsewhere within Drago, the house of the Drakon Master overseeing the capital stood magnificent and proud. Within it, in a large hall room sort of, Drakon Master Dakota stood, his son Jaspar standing behind him.

Drakon Master Dakota, tall and fierce with a taut muscular frame at height of 8.8ft was a sort of local governor councilor that governed the four geopolitical zones of the Drakonian Confederacy.

Just like the other three Drakon Masters, Dakota has his house in the Capital where the Drakon Lord Meados lives along with the capital executives and whatnot. This only meant that activities and activities existed, ones that had often put themselves between his family and his self.

His son, Jaspar, failed in his Coming Of Age Ceremony, giving no room for him to hide his face in shame.

Although, Jaspar has been able, upon report of t.i.tus, to transform fully into his dragon self, he still had failed to capture an Ironspike Tailed Dog which was the major focus of the ceremony.

t.i.tus had told him to take it easy, that his transformation meant he could make it. But then again, he had prepared eleborately, a feast where he would slaughter Jaspar"s hunt for the boy and some select few, celebrating the new stage in his life.

But No, Jaspar had come back empty handed with a hearsay of him transforming into his dragon self. He had come empty handed then, with people of various positions, awaiting to cheer him back.

The shame he faced that day!

Or, was he asking too much from Jaspar?

"Why?" Dakota asked, several emotions mixed in that single question.

He knew his son was smart and that he would know why he had asked the question. For several days now, he had wanted to talk to him, father to son and finally, he had been able to do so today.

Even at the expense of being absent at a council meeting with Lord Meados.

Perhaps Jaspar was still seething about his mother"s incident and just maybe, if he drew closer to him, the young lad would improve for the better.

However, he still wanted to know his thoughts.

Jaspar sighed, looking away, his fists clenched. The room where they stood was several feet high, the ceiling filled with arches as the dull black walls were lit with engraved lamps and dragon carvings. The floor, polished black with few sprinkles of granite here and there, had a large image of a black dragon head, on which Dakota stood at its center.

"I don"t know. Maybe because I don"t know you." Jaspar mouthed, clenching his fists even tighter while his long coat swayed revealing his bare chest.

As usual, he was dressed with pants, sandals, a pouch that contained more than its size gave away, the coat being the only new additive.

"How can you say you don"t know me?" Dakota cried, turning around into a stooping position as both hands pointed to himself.

"I am Drakon Master Dakota, Esteemed Member of the Dragon Council, and I, I am your FATHER!"

"Exactly!" Jaspar"s eyes burnt hot red, moistened with tears. "I only know you from what people say. I only know you as Drakon Master Dakota, Esteemed member of the Dragon Council But.. I don"t know you as a father. You"ve never been there for me. Always caring for position and power. More than you cared about your family."Jaspar cried as he shut his eyes, looking away.

"B-but..." Dakota was silenced by the raise of his son"s palm.

"Now, tell me, Drakon Master, how can I impress a person I don"t know?"

Dakota froze, his muscles tensing more as veins revealed themselves on his temple, adding more masculinity to the open chest martial robe he had on.

So this was why!

He rose to full height, face palming himself while the other hand caressed his temples.

By Dragon Blood, what was his son insinuating? So that was why Jaspar had shamed him at the coming of age ceremony?

He could at least had saved him some shame...

"Oh, Focus on your boy, Dakota, leave the council alone."

"Hoi, Dakota, there you are." A loud booming voice resonated through the hall room.

Dakota turned forward, seeing the meat bag of fat muscles that had greeted him, his fellow Drakon Master and Friend, Oberius.

Oberius walked in from one of the numerous doors in the wall, flanked by the t.i.tus, the warrior who had accompanied Jaspar"s in the hunt, in his Metal plated Leather armor.

Oberius was huge, standing at one inch lesser than Dakota, he had an oblong face with a blunt nose seated atop deep brown skin that was coated with a sort of bathroom robe.

"Aha! You have missed the meeting. Pray you tell me what you have been up to?" Oberius asked as he got close to Dakota.

"Oho! Some father son time eh?" He grunted, smacking Dakota"s shoulder, the latter reciprocating.

"Greetings, t.i.tus. Greetings Drakon Master Oberius." Jaspar bowed respectfully, earning himself a grunt.

"Some things are rather important, besides Matters of state. What brings you here?" Dakota grunted, his black forehead jewel reflecting faint light.

"Well, there has been discussions. Several ones. And today, we received a World Order from the Irunmole Society."

"World Order? What are those messengers planning?" Dakota frowned.

"If you had been present, you would have known." Oberius smirked.

"Talk, come on..."

"Well, the order was that they had come across a breed Of beings with The Mad Prime"s soul signature, tagged Ascenders."

"Ascenders eh!" Dakota muttered, thoughtfully.

"Yes, Ascenders. Beasts with unusual power capability basically."

"What? Are they telling us to wipe away our Dragon Legacy? Because only dragons fit into that description?" Dakota"s frown deepened.

"No... they broke it down for us to the tiniest bits."

"So what then?"

"The Ascenders are basically demons, at least, according to the narrative. And our realms being accommodative to demons, we have been asked to cut ties with them so we do not suffer friendly fire when the Irunmoles engage in Ascender wipe out crusade." Oberius stated, huffing for breath.

"Cut ties? We have a truce with these demons, remember? Plus the Irunmoles are basically threatening us despite the fact we are on friendly terms with term." Dakota"s black, mascared eyes widened.

"Please tell me it was refused?"

"The Order wasn"t giving us an option of choice, Dakota. Besides, you know how soft Lord Meados has become, recently. The old pal promptly agreed." Oberius shrugged.

"WHAT? This is our land, not theirs. What we do is our business." Dakota thumbed fiercely towards the ground.

"Too late for anger now! It has begun."

"What?"

"Cutting off ties with demonkind. The order has being released to eject all demons from Drago City. It is going on, right now as I speak."

"You cannot be serious." Dakota cried, tugging at Oberius" hands.

"Seeing is believing. What do you say, we go check the streets?" Oberius motioned with one hand towards the door he had come in through.

Without any words, Dakota fumed, marching heavily out of the hall. With a deep sigh, Oberius turned to follow.

Jaspar exhaled, steam escaping his nose. Again, it had happened.

His father valuing state matters more than him.

"Boy, you need to cool off." t.i.tus said, tapping Jaspar lightly.

"Your father is proud of you, even though he doesn"t say it. Be patient with him, okay? He"s always out there trying to improve the standard of living for everyone in Drago and the Confederacy at large.

"B-but, I don"t want a super hero father. Just a father who would be able to be there when I need him. Who will celebrate the littlest success I make instead of ranting over my failures...

Is that too much to ask?" Jaspar looked up, his eyes pouring with hot tears, leaving a dumbfounded t.i.tus staring wordlessly.

Was that really too much to ask?

He wanted to please his father, seek his recognition, praise but this Father of his would rather capitalize on the weak points than the strong points all in a bid to model him after his self.
