Chapter 11

Bidding his goodbyes to his younger siblings was not easy. They were whining for him to not leave the residence, which was obviously just an act for Eddra to ask what things do they want to receive once he got back home. These beasts were growing much clever than Eddra thought.

"Be safe on the road, dearest brother!" The three children shouted in unison of which he replied with a nod as Eddra walked inside the carriage prepared by his mother.

"A dagger... A bow and arrows... A ragged doll...," Eddra recited the three things they wished for. Noticing that Everette did not ask for anything, Eddra suddenly felt the urge to went back outside and question him.

However, seeing the young man waving his hand and smiling widely, Eddra thought that maybe Everette purposely did so. Despite this, it felt unfair to Eddra if he would leave behind his second brother. Guess he just needed to think of an item Everette would love to receive.

Ding!

[Location: Small City of Aurora]

The dimness slowly crept in the sky, and soon, the sun of which was providing light was replaced by the moon; beckoned by the stars shining in infinite patterns through the dark tranquility of the sky.

And to the opposite of the sky, on land, the streetlights were alined from the busy streets they were pa.s.sing through, dwindling and flickering as they became the source of illumination to the people.

The warmth that was held by the sunlight was nowhere to be felt, and the cool breeze took place as it swept through, granting the relief from the hot day that pa.s.sed.

Eddra stared at the time duration of the plate. He left when he had finished his meal for an hour, and another hour for completing his preparation. Calculating the time he was riding the carriage, 10 hours had pa.s.sed when he left the residence.

Putting his elbow on the armrest, he leaned his chin on his palm. He insisted to not make any long stops nor rest to reach their destination much faster, however, Eddra felt his eyelids were starting to get heavy and his body was longing for something soft to lay down on. It would soon be midnight, and certainly, the coachman must have been craving for a rest, too...

Unable to held it longer, he ordered the man driving the carriage to halt. "Let"s take a rest in that inn," Eddra commanded to the coachman, who then smoothly steered the vehicle through the resting place.

Losing his patience to wait for the coachman to escort him out, Eddra pushed the door of the carriage and simply stormed inside the inn. Soon as he entered, Eddra was greeted with warmth coming from the fireplace of the lobby. Walking straight, Eddra went to the keeper and asking for two separate rooms for him and his coachman.

Both of them were escorted shortly after paying for a day of stay. With a soft push to the room provided to him and locking the door behind him, Eddra settled down the drowsy feeling in him.

...

Stumbling on the floor from the side of his bed, Eddra woke up from the sudden loud crowing before his ears. With a hand on his ear, Eddra scanned the room he rented where he saw the rooster circling and crowing.

"Is this a way to wake the customers?" Eddra questioned the innocent rooster that stopped running around and t.i.tled his head on Eddra"s direction.

Ignoring it, he noticed that he had overslept when Eddra took a glanced on the duration that continuously decreasing in the plate.

"... I slept for too long." Eddra thought that perhaps the reason why he was so tired to the point he slept for 11 hours was the routine he had done yesterday before they leave the residence.

"Oh," was his straight reaction when he saw that the time duration left was currently half an hour.

Eddra crawled back to his bed, not minding the plate and rested his exhausted body along with the noisy rooster. Although surprisingly he felt no pain, Eddra knew that his energy was drained from the extreme stamina exercise.

As soon as he felt the soft bed, the door made a loud bam and it was pushed wide open, revealing a little girl. "Pony! What heaven"s sake are you doing there?" She stormed in.

When she fully noticed Eddra who was laying on the bed, she screamed on top of her lungs, "Ahh! A dead body?!" Her shouts echoed through the entire room. Eddra simply hoped that n.o.body heard her loudmouth.

Tiptoeing as she got near to his bed, the little girl poked his left cheek numerous times. "... I am breathing still, you know?" was Eddra"s comment.

"Oh... That"s good news..." She brought a hand on her chest and slowly blew through her mouth. "I am sorry for disturbing your rest, Mister. My hen has a habit of storming in this room every day," she continued, grabbing the annoying rooster on her arms.

"That is not a hen, Little lady. That is a rooster."

"No. This is a hen," she insisted, "I know this might be unbeliebabel--"

"Unbelievable," Eddra repeated the word correctly.

"-- Yes, that word-- but she lays eggs."

"Uhm... That is obviously a rooster."

"No, no." She waved a hand with her eyebrows together. "Oh look, Mister. You are lucky! It"s laying!" she cheered, facing the rooster"s b.u.m in front of his face.

Soon enough, five minutes pa.s.sed, the b.u.m of the bird opened and gradually pushed out a golden egg on top of his face. "That egg is proof that this is certainly a hen, Mister."

Eddra held the egg on his hand and surveyed it. When the sunlight from the window in his room met the golden egg, it shone and blinded his eyes. Sitting straight up on his bed, he instinctively threw the egg on the wall. However, instead of breaking like it was to the ordinary eggs, it bounced back and produced a powerful thump, causing a quite big crack on the spot where Eddra threw it.

Blinking to what he had witnessed, Eddra looked at the little girl again. "Unbeliebablu!" she joyed out, raising her hands on the air, throwing her rooster pet.

...

Washing his face from the given basin contained with water from the innkeeper, Eddra prepared himself for another long travel. Cleaning himself was quick, however, the coachman wasted 20 minutes of his duration time.

"What is he doing?" Eddra started to get irritated while he was waiting on his bed for the coachman to call him over.

Gathering his annoyance, Eddra had chosen to went downstairs to search for him. When he set foot on the lobby, Eddra expected for at least a person present, however, he had seen not a single soul.

And soon later, the anxiety made its way in him, slowly creeping as Eddra stormed outside to check for a living.

"Where is the keeper...?" Eddra audibly asked himself when silence greeted him after pushing the exit door open. Scanning the streets without seeing a single person and the lobby back and forth, Eddra felt his heartbeat racing unmeasurably. Blinking, Eddra stared again at the lobby.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Din... Di... D...

[WARNING!]

Numbers of plates showed themselves continuously one after the other, all contained the same word, floating before his eyes. And before Eddra knew it, the numerous plates had already blocked his view, making him unable to see anything. Getting utterly confused and scared to what was happening, his breathing somehow turned abnormal, panting while he read every plate.

Ding!

His vision eyed the one plate centered and leading above all others.
