Devil's Rise

Chapter 147

"You"ve had your Dao Eyes so long, but use them like a toddler. Truly bringing shame to this princess. You"ve learned so many auxiliary Daos but have not even made your main Dao undefeatable."

"All your little sister used was her Time Dao, and she crushed everything you sent at her. One powerful Dao can crush a thousand lesser Daos. Remember that well and work harder from now on, or I"ll be sending Susie to pay you a visit," said my mother as she grabbed Susie and disappeared into the void.

"Meet me at the Hudson Estate when you are done gathering your little harem," I heard my mother"s voice echo after she disappeared.

Thankfully, my mother was now gone. This entire rift was a mess. I planned to get out of here before anyone came to ask me questions. I"ll ask my mother about those merits later when I get to the Hudson Estate.

I didn"t have the bravery to go looking for someone in the Zagell Empire for merits after my mother just slaughtered one of their Kings. And from my mother"s words, my maternal grandfather had apparently slaughtered their old Emperor, so I don"t think I had the greatest bargaining power here.

I had only met my maternal grandfather once when I was an adolescent boy. He was always busy practicing his devilry. "Even though you don"t carry my name, the Rossen bloodline flows through your veins. Never let anyone in the Xertzul Abyss look down on you, baby James," he said as I sat on his knee.

"Let"s go," I said to Ayla, Jax, and Jax"s Booty Brigade.

I still had some things to wrap up in the Zagell Empire before I got the h.e.l.l out of dodge. I brought out my messenger that Mira had given me and told her to meet me at Coalfell. She said she"d be there in a few months.

When I came to Coalfell, the changes that had taken place surprised me. I saw halflings walking around in dog suits, and every building had J-Mart on top of it. My kitten had been really busy, it seemed. You can"t leave a mischievous cat to his own devices. Osmin walked out when he saw me coming into town with my army.

"Soulless, it"s good to see you," Osmin said. He had on a dog suit like the rest of the halflings.

"Finally, you can save us from the cat menace!"

"What has my cat been up to while I"ve been gone," I said.

"It"s terrible Soulless, he has no decency. He said we are nothing more than dogs and he"s forced all us halflings to work long and hard every day for barely any pay. Even my dark mistress" hands were tied unable to stop his tyranny!." said Osmin as he looked really pitiful in his dog suit.

"He has no decency. A real slave driver. We halflings are a n.o.ble people. We don"t deserve this kind of treatment!"

"Sounds like he"s doing a good job to me," I said as a brushed past Osmin heading to my Bloodfang Hill Estate. I didn"t have time to listen to this little halfling"s problems.

The fact that they could work like slaves was better than they deserved. It was a fitting revenge for the treatment they had subjected this young lord to when he spent time here.

I had thought of slaughtering the town when I got here, but they apparently were suffering a fate worse than death. I will have to reward that cat when I see him.

I let out Blinker when I got to my Bloodfang Estate.

"Bunny, I"m giving you an hour to go round up your bunny fluffle," I said.

"Yes, young lord," said Blinker. He had a reverence for me now that I was a Viscount. He accepted he was a bunny wholeheartedly. There was no more talk of him being a great wulpertanger or whatever he wanted to be called.

"They have one choice, join me or die. If not, I will take a stroll down through the Bloodfang mine," I said as I kicked the bunny down the mineshaft.

A new army of bunnies would be a glorious addition to this young lord"s forces. I had plenty of room in my Codex of Souls to fit an army of beasts. Seeing as I would be heading off to conqueror new lands soon, they would be a great boon to this young lord.

If they didn"t want to come quietly, then this young lord had plenty of s.p.a.ce recently cleared out by his heartless sister in his u003cHollow Domainu003e. Since they were my bunny"s family I would give them a chance. This young lord is a kind and just ruler.

"Jax, I will be staying here for a bit to enter seclusion," I said.

"You"re free to travel the local seas with your Booty Brigade."

"Young lord, this ghostly butler will guard the manor while you are in seclusion. I have to initiate the new recruits into my Brigade," said Jax.

I cringed hearing him speaking of the four Viscounts we had captured in Coldridge base. I dare not think what initiation into the Booty Brigade entailed. Their grim fate was sealed.

"Meow, get your a.s.s out here, you stupid dog," screamed Jurrath as he hobbled up Bloodfang Hill. He had gotten much too fat. I must put this cat on a diet.

Out of the Codex of Souls came a cute little grey puppy with a ghostly collar that said "Dex". He was adorable. He was bright-eyed with a fluffy tail. I thought my Guardian Aspect would be a bigger dog, but at least he"s cute.

"Bark, You"ve got a bone to pick with me cat?" said Dex as he wagged his tail happily.

"Mrwarrwarwr" screamed Jurrath as he started pawing the puppy on the head.

"You took away my chef!"

The puppy and the cat then started rolling around. Jurrath kept pawing him on the head, while Dex kept licking his ear. I ignored their antics. I had nothing to do with the two Aspects fight. After a while Jurrath sat on top of Dex, claiming his dominance.

This young lord was glad to no longer be a chef, but the cat had done a great service for this young lord. I began fixing a nice meal of savage beast meat for my fat cat to reward him for his meritorious subjugation of the halflings. After this meal, he would go on a diet though. This young lord can"t have a fat cat.
