Chapter 866: He Preferred Not to Show His Abjection to The Person He Liked

“Don’t worry, Little Xu will take care of Ji Mianmian in your absence, and it’s too late for you to regret now unless you want to work with your uncle again.”

Yue Tingfeng stood up and continued. “Well, enjoy your peace and quiet here. You can tell me if there’s anything you want me to do or convey.”

Ye Shaoguang said, “Don’t tell Ji Mianmian about my arrest.”

Yue Tingfeng replied harshly, “Sure, but I doubt that she’ll worry about you even if I tell her…”

Ye Shaoguang put on a self-mocking smile. Well, that was true. Ji Mianmian would most probably only be worried about her hunger and room cleanliness after realizing that he was arrested as a murder suspect.

Ji Mianmian… Ji Mianmian… Oh G.o.d, he had not seen her for just a few hours and yet he missed her already.

He wanted to keep this a secret from Ji Mianmian not because he’s afraid of her from getting worried, but… to preserve his image in her heart.

No one preferred to show his… abjection to the person he cared for and liked. It was his best self that he wanted her to remember for her whole life.

Even though Ye Shaoguang was confident that he could get out of this place in one piece, his glamor would still be affected as he had lost his freedom, being in the detention center. Ji Mianmian—who usually judged people by their appearances—would rate him as ugly when she saw him in his current state.

Ye Shaoguang let out a heavy sigh. “No one will satisfy her hunger when I’m gone. Please tell her… to be hardworking. Don’t always order food delivery or think about getting free food from the neighbors…”

Yue Tingfeng interrupted before Ye Shaoguang could finish his sentence. “Do you want to be her boyfriend or her mother?”

Ye Shaoguang’s expression became icy cold. “It’s my pleasure.”

“Anything else…”

Ye Shaoguang frowned in response. There were more but he had no idea which deserved his attention the most.

After racking his brain for quite some time, he said, “Why don’t… you let her stay at your house during this period. She can follow Yan Qingsi until I’m released from this place…”

Yue Tingfeng replied, “That’s it?”

“That’s all.”

“Alright, that’s a deal.”

Yue Tingfeng glanced at his watch after exiting the police station. It was not eight o’clock yet. The night was still young.

After a few moments of hesitation, he gave Helan Fangnian a phone call in the car.

The phone rang a few times before it was finally answered. Yue Tingfeng asked, “Do you have time?”

Helan Fangnian answered straight away, “No.”

Yue Tingfeng heard some noise in the background, but he did not mind it at all and turned a deaf ear to Helan Fangnian’s refusal. “Let’s have a drink at the Jade Orchid Pavilion.”

Helan Fangnian rejected him again. “I don’t have time!”

Yue Tingfeng ignored him once more. “Nine o’clock. I’ll wait for you there.”

He hung up the phone call immediately afterward. They were merely talking to themselves without paying any attention to each other.

Yue Tingfeng threw his phone onto the car seat and buckled up before heading toward Jade Orchid Pavilion. It had been a long time since he last visited that place.

It seemed like his descent into intoxication and dissipation with a luxurious lifestyle became a past as soon as Yan Qingsi returned home and… stole his heart.

All of a sudden, Yue Tingfeng’s cell phone rang with a distinctive ringtone set specifically for Yan Qingsi.

He answered the phone while holding the steering wheel with one hand. “h.e.l.lo…”

Yan Qingsi asked, “When are you coming back?”

Yan Qingsi’s voice enlightened Yue Tingfeng’s mood instantly. The profligacy he once lived was absolutely unnecessary and Yan Qingsi was the only one who could pull him back to reality and gave him a purpose in life.

“I might be late so don’t wait for me. Go to sleep first if I don’t return home later, but… I’ll go back earlier if you miss me.”
