Chapter 1161: He Doesn’t Need to Sneak Around Anymore
Fang Qi decided to leave, as Jiang Yuning showed no interest in talking further with him.
He just stood there, expressionless. Earlier, he thought Nian Xi had a boyfriend, so he didn’t intrude on her privacy but just admired her from afar.
Now he learned she was single. What should he do?
He had no idea why she didn’t get back together with her ex-boyfriend. He clearly understood she was single now and that it was perfectly acceptable for him to be nice to her in public. He wouldn’t be ruining her happiness by doing that. And he didn’t need to sneak around anymore.
That was great!
…
At three pm, Grandma Nian underwent several diagnostic tests and examinations while Nian Xi kept her company. It turned out that Grandma Nian had no severe illnesses but a lot of small problems.
Earlier today, she pa.s.sed out while working in her vegetable garden.
According to the test results, the doctor explained that it was because of insufficient blood flow to the brain.
“Grandma, you’re almost eighty years old. Why are you still working in the vegetable garden? Do you really need to grow vegetables yourself?” Nian Xi complained.
“I don’t, but that’s an old habit,” said Grandma Nian. “That’s my only hobby. If I didn’t take care of those vegetables, they might die. It would be such a pity.”
Nian Junting furrowed his eyebrows and said, “If the steward hadn’t found you lying in the garden, you might have died in this cold weather. You’re not allowed to work in the garden anymore. My father will take care of the vegetables from now on.”
“I…” Nian Qingyun wore a sour face, “I don’t know how to do that. Also, why are you giving me an order? Which one of us here’s the father?”
“Whatever,” Nian Junting said lackadaisically.
Nian Qingyun didn’t know what to say.
How could that conversation be ended with “whatever”?’ He thought. You’re taking advantage of me.
This kid’s getting more and more arrogant.
Grandma Nian exhaled and said, “Forget it. I’m old. I’ll die sooner or later. I wonder if I’ll live long enough to see Nian Xi get married.”
While speaking, Grandma Nian looked at Nian Xi with a grievance.
She felt a bad headache coming on. How come it was about her again? Ever since the New Year, her family was pus.h.i.+ng her harder and harder to get married.
Grandma Nian held her hand and said, “Xi, I like you the most among all my grandchildren. I’m worried you’ll end up alone after I leave. I am not an old-school grandma. Even if one day you found out that you no longer liked men, I’d accept you being with a woman. I just don’t want you to be alone.”
Nian Xi felt the corners of her mouth twitching.
Nian Qingyun rubbed his forehead, said, “I won’t accept that.”
“Grandma, don’t worry. I’m straight,” Nian Xi patted her grandma on the shoulder.
Nian Xi kept her grandma company until four o’clock, then left the hospital. She got into the car, turned on her phone and saw the smiley-face emoji Jiang Yuning sent her.
She shook her head, “Is the emoji the only thing you can send?” She replied to him. She was in a bad mood.
Jiang Yuning immediately replied to her with a crying face emoji.
Nian Xi honestly didn’t know what to say.
She didn’t reply to his message again.
Back at the station, she carefully read through Duan Yang’s file again and again until her stomach started to grumble. She raised her head and saw that it was already dark. Everyone had already gone home; she was there alone.
She packed up her things and left in a hurry. At the door, she saw someone sitting on the chair in the hallway. He was wearing a camel coat, a pair of jeans. On the chair next to him were kidney treatments, donkey-hide gelatin solution, and all sorts of dietary supplements.
She paused with a look of surprise and even doubted her own eyes. Only until she walked up to him did she confirm that it was him indeed.
“Mr. Jiang! What are you doing here?”
