Chapter 1177: Why Was the Atmosphere so Weird at the Crime Scene?

Nian Xi took out the love letter, unfolded it and then asked Hu Hao, “Do you know who wrote Duan Yang this love letter? Did he receive any other letters like this?”

Hu Hao read the love letter carefully, then shook his head and said, “Guys like us stay in the lab every single day. We’re nerds. We don’t have romance on our mind, so not many people like us.”

Nian Xi was a little disappointed. Hu Hao scratched his cheek, said, “This handwriting looks a little familiar. I think I’ve seen it somewhere before.”

“Think carefully.”

“I don’t remember.” Hu Hao spent a short while thinking, then shrugged his shoulders and asked, “Do you think the person who wrote this is the killer?”

“No. I just don’t want to overlook anything.”

Nian Xi left the dorm and headed toward the lab.

Jiang Yuning followed behind her.

The two of them spent a while walking in the school. It was getting dark.

“It’s late,” Jiang Yuning said. “Shall we have some dinner first?”

Nian Xi looked at the time. It was six pm already. But the lab was right in front of them.

“I think I’ll take a look at the lab first. You can start thinking about what to have for dinner.”

Hearing that, Jiang Yuning immediately started to think carefully about it.

For him, taking Nian Xi to dinner was a very big deal. He wanted to guarantee a happy meal for her.

Soon they walked into Duan Yang’s lab. Nian Xi checked every corner of the lab. Jiang Yuning silently watched her climb onto the chairs and crawl under the tables. He felt a little sorry for her. She was a girl, yet she had to work so hard.

“Mr. Jiang, you are also a physicist who spends a lot of time in the lab. Can you tell me what’s missing in this lab?” Nian Xi checked the lab, then sat down on the desk before Jiang Yuning and conveniently took out a banana from her bag and started peeling it.

“Why do you… have a banana in your bag?” Jiang Yuning looked at her with a weird expression.

“Sometimes I work very late. I put it in my bag in case I get hungry.” Nian Xi teasingly put the banana before his face and said, “Are you hungry?”

Jiang Yuning looked at the tempting banana. He was hungry indeed. He ate a lot of vegetables at every meal. Normally he would have had dinner long ago.

That wasn’t important. The important thing is that the banana was held in Nian Xi’s hand.

“Are you going to feed me?” he asked, blus.h.i.+ng.

Nian Xi laughed. “I’m luring you. Never mind. You’ve kept me company for such a long time, so I decided to share the banana with you. But you should think carefully about the question I just asked you.”

Jiang Yuning took half the banana from her hand, frowned and said, “Xi…”

“Is anything amiss?” Seeing the weird look on his face, Nian Xi immediately popped her eyes.

“Can you please stop calling me Mr. Jiang?” Jiang Yuning said with a m.u.f.fled voice. “You can call me Ning.”

Nian Xi found his words both funny and annoying. “I’m talking to you about the case. Ning? That’s too intimate.”

“I like it.” Jiang Yuning dropped his eyelids, curved his delicate lips in a faint smile.

“Eh-hem.” Nian Xi coughed and wondered why the atmosphere at the crime scene was so weird. “Answer my question first,” she said.

“I didn’t discover…”

Nian Xi buried her face in her palm. She really shouldn’t have asked that silly man about it.

Jiang Yuning explained in a low voice, “This is a physics lab indeed, but I haven’t been in such a simple and low-level lab for years after college.”

Nian Xi felt her mouth corners twitching. She was impressed.

“But… I didn’t see the registration book,” said Jiang Yuning. “When I was in college, I shared a lab with my cla.s.smates. There was always a registration book in the lab.”

“What registration book?” Nian Xi instantly asked.
