Incurable Pain | Chapter 96.1

Cub Diary

  1. Raising the Cub

In fact, a child’s personality can generally be observed from the age of one or two.

Yu Baiqi was a relatively quiet little bean. During the period of babbling after weaning at twelve months old, faced with the adults’ fondness and teasing, he often seemed indifferent.

He was even more of a little prince than Yu Luoyin. Even Yu Qianxiao, who came late in his grandfather’s life, adored him to no end and often held him on his knees.

Grandpa couldn’t help but smile when he saw Yu Baiqi’s calm and composed demeanor, like a porcelain doll.

“How come our Baiqi looks like a little adult?”

Yu Baiqi’s voice was tender as he called out, “Great-grandpa.”

He only knew how to use these simple nicknames: dad, grandpa, grandma, or adding ‘great’ in front of them.

But these simple terms already made Grandpa very happy.

Yu Baiqi only added a ‘good’ in front of ‘mom’ when he saw his mother after work, saying “good mommy.”

After work, Bai Xunyin came to pick him up at the Yu household. Only then did the little one show a joyful smile and opened his arms to her, saying, “Mommy!”

Children’s voices always sound so sweet.

Bai Xunyin smiled and lifted him up, gently kissing his tender cheek.

On the way back, Bai Xunyin tried to converse with the little one.

“Little cub, were you happy at Grandpa and Grandma’s house today?”

Yu Baiqi seemed to ponder for a moment before shaking his head.

“Not happy?”

Bai Xunyin was somewhat surprised and asked softly, “Why not? Grandpa and Grandma love you so much.”

Every time Yu Baiqi was sent over, Yu Yuan and Gu Yan wished to turn the solemn house into a toy room.

“Can’t see.”

Although he was only a year and a half old, Yu Baiqi already tried to express his grievances.

His eyes like black grapes blinked, “Mom.”

Every time during the day, his mom was not by his side. He didn’t want to play with those toys.

Hearing this, Bai Xunyin, after understanding the ‘profound meaning’ her son wanted to express, felt deeply guilty.

Indeed, Yu Luoyin was busy with work, and after her maternity leave ended, the task of taking care of Yu Baiqi naturally fell to the elders. Both parents would only go to the Yu household to pick up Yu Baiqi after work. It was a bit unfair to him.

But young people in their thirties were in a stage of career development. If their footsteps were hindered by their families, it would be irresponsible for their research.

So Bai Xunyin hugged Yu Baiqi with distress and kissed him on the cheek, “Mom will take you to see… um, to play with little Ah Wu on Sunday, okay?”

Ah Wu was Ning Shumo’s daughter, a little younger than Yu Baiqi, with the full name Shengwu.

The little girl was cute and adorable, and children always loved to play with peers. When Yu Baiqi heard this, his eyes brightened, nodding repeatedly.

When it was past eight in the evening, Bai Xunyin managed to coax Yu Baiqi to sleep in the nursery before quietly closing the door and walking out.

As soon as the door closed, a certain big bad wolf ‘waiting for a rabbit’ outside grabbed her.

Her slender and soft waist was embraced by a pair of large hands. Without waiting for her to speak, her lips were already sealed tight.

For a moment, every breath she took was filled with the refreshing mint scent from Yu Luoyin’s body, and she was panting faintly.

After letting her go, Yu Luoyin’s voice was a bit hoa.r.s.e, “Is the cub asleep?”

“Already asleep,” Bai Xunyin whispered, her soft brows and eyes somewhat playful, “But if you make a fuss here… he might wake up.”

Raising a child was really troublesome. Even though Yu Baiqi was over a year old now, he still woke up two or three times in the middle of the night.

Although Bai Xunyin didn’t find it too difficult, Yu Luoyin felt sorry for her.

So after kissing his ‘thirst’ away, the man lifted her onto the bed and did nothing else. His long hands gently kneaded her slender waist, with just the right Ah Mount of strength, effectively relieving Bai Xunyin’s day-long tension.

“Mmm.”

As he kneaded, Bai Xunyin started to feel drowsy, her voice m.u.f.fled as she asked, “Are you not going to… stop?”

She knew that since she became pregnant until now, over two years later, they hadn’t been very smooth in that area. Every time, it was either with extreme caution or interrupted by various messy ‘accidents’.

And now that Yu Baiqi was a little older, he often cried and fussed in the middle of the night.

Over time, neither of them had much ‘enthusiasm’ anymore.

Just when Bai Xunyin saw Yu Luoyin so eager, her palms warmed up, and she thought he was going to do something tonight.

“I won’t do anything.”

Yu Luoyin smiled, lowered his head and gently kissed her, his voice soft and tender with pity, “You’ve worked hard.”

Bai Xunyin smiled vaguely and soon fell asleep on the pillow.

Her graceful figure, dressed in silk nightwear, undulated with steady breathing rhythms. Yu Luoyin quietly accompanied her for a while, then seeing that it was almost time, he gently got up and went to the nursery.

Sure enough, it was the standard ‘night awakening’ time for Yu Baiqi at this time.

The little guy sat blankly on the bed, half asleep and half awake, watching Yu Luoyin come in.

Yu Baiqi’s soft voice murmured, “Dad.”

“Shh.”

Yu Luoyin gestured to his lips, then came over and picked up Yu Baiqi, lowering his voice, “Little one, Mom is asleep, don’t disturb her. Daddy will play with you today.”

This little guy was quite a handful, always wanting adults to hold and rock him back to sleep in the wee hours, resting in someone’s comforting arms.

Before Yu Baiqi could understand much, he just wanted Mom to hold him, which sometimes exasperated Yu Luoyin to no end.

Since he slightly understood things, Yu Luoyin would always come to hold him “uninvited” – the ultimate goal being to ensure Bai Xunyin slept soundly.

Though Yu Baiqi couldn’t understand what Dad was saying, he seemed accustomed to it, murmuring softly.

Yu Luoyin held the little one in his arms and saw his big grape-like eyes blink. Suddenly, he said, “Sister A Wu.”

Oh, right, besides calling parents, grandparents, and other relatives, Yu Baiqi would also say “Sister A Wu”.

He was always delighted to see Ning Shumo’s daughter, A Wu, who was six months younger than him, with the full name Sheng Wu.

The little girl was adorable and charming, and all children loved playing with peers. Yu Baiqi’s eyes lit up whenever he heard about her, nodding repeatedly.

Later, after putting Yu Baiqi to sleep, Yu Luoyin gently changed his diaper, adeptly handling the tasks that came with raising a child.

Initially, they hired a nanny, but both Yu Luoyin and Bai Xunyin disliked having a stranger in their intimate s.p.a.ce. So, after barely a month, they let the nanny go.

Since then, they had to take care of the baby themselves.

Yu Luoyin was eager to take on all the responsibilities, being a man with much more physical and mental energy than his wife. But many times, Yu Baiqi would “reject” him, preferring only Mom.

So, Yu Luoyin tried his best to help, ensuring that Bai Xunyin didn’t have to work too hard.
