While they were chatting, Qiao Nian walked over and opened the door. Happening to hear the last line, she raised her brow and asked casually, “Who’s going to be overjoyed?”

“Miss Qiao, you’re back?” Gu San had only just noticed her and explained awkwardly, “Master w.a.n.g and I were talking, I didn’t see you.”

Ye w.a.n.gchuan effortlessly and discreetly put the cigarette out. He tossed the pack back into the compartment and wound the window down for some ventilation.

Qiao Nian didn’t notice that he was smoking.

Upon hearing what Gu San said, she responded, “Mm, I’d told you that I’d take five minutes, but I got caught up. Did you wait long?”

“Nope.” Gu San looked at the time. It was just 10 minutes past the set time.

Qiao Nian was already in the car. She still remembered her question. “Who did you say was going to be overjoyed?”

“It’s just that…” The words Cai Gang were almost mentioned.

Just before the name came out of his mouth, Gu San suddenly recalled that Master w.a.n.g did not seem to want Miss Qiao to know about what he was doing for her.

“That what?” Qiao Nian was getting impatient.

“That…” Gu San almost bit his tongue. He really wanted to slap himself. Why did he have to talk so much? How was he going to salvage the situation now?

Gu San stammered but couldn’t go on. He was on the verge of tears, but he knew that Master w.a.n.g wouldn’t allow him to speak the truth. He dared not mention Cai Gang’s name.

Qiao Nian was just asking casually and wasn’t paying much attention. But seeing how nervous he looked now, she turned to look at the man beside her.

“Do you know who Gu San is talking about?”

“Oh.” Qiao Nian knew that he was usually laid-back and hardly recalled the trivial matters. It was completely sensible that he was not listening carefully to what Gu San had said. She didn’t think too much about it.

He calmed himself down and quickly summoned his excuse. “Remember that night when you gave to Master w.a.n.g a doc.u.ment? I thought about how it contained details about all the things Wei Qi had done, and I couldn’t help but feel happy about it. That’s why I told Master w.a.n.g I’m overjoyed…”

This reason was obviously too far-fetched. It didn’t make much sense.

Gu San himself knew that this lie was not well-thought-out. He held his breath for fear that Qiao Nian would probe further, then quickly changed the topic. “Oh, right. Miss Qiao, where did you get that stuff? It should have been difficult to have found out all of that.”
