Chapter 1302: The Quest’s NPC

Chapter 1302: The Quest’s NPC

A small and old shop, one that was even smaller than Mu Zixian’s grocery store, was situated at this address. The interior of this store was littered with various weird-looking stones. At the entrance of the store was an old man with a head full of white hair, holding onto a chisel and chipping at a stone.

One look at that diligent and focused look of the old man and one could tell that he was the renowned professional that they were looking for.

Above the head of the old man was a row of words saying, “Stonesmith Javier”.

Upon seeing Javier, w.a.n.g Yu hurriedly went forward to pay his respects and send his greetings, “Greetings, old sir.”

NPCs were always direct in the things they did. When Javier heard w.a.n.g Yu’s greetings, he lifted his head and glanced at w.a.n.g Yu, before asking, “So it’s the City Lord, what brings you here today?”

Seeing that the NPC was so forthright, w.a.n.g Yu naturally wouldn’t twist his words either, and immediately expressed his intentions.

w.a.n.g Yu had initially thought that after this old man had respectfully called him the City Lord, he would at least sincerely hear his request out. Who would have known that he would expressionlessly reply, “I’m sorry, City Lord, my abilities are limited. If it was my great-grandfather, he might be able to help you.”

“Where can I find your great-grandfather?” w.a.n.g Yu asked.

After asking this question, w.a.n.g Yu immediately regretted his actions. This old man was at least 60 to 70 years old. His great-grandfather should have pa.s.sed away a long time ago and turned into ashes.

As expected, the moment Javier’s great-grandfather was mentioned, Javier dropped the tool in his hand and answered solemnly, “I do not know. I once heard from my grandfather that there was this year where my great-grandfather went out to collect rocks and never returned since then. If he was still here, I would definitely be able to learn all of his crafts and be of use to City Lord.”

“This…”

Upon hearing Javier’s words, w.a.n.g Yu’s heart tightened. F*ck, surely this old guy isn’t asking him to go and find a missing person.

Just when w.a.n.g Yu was worried over this, the system sent over a notification.

“This…”

Upon seeing the system notification, w.a.n.g Yu didn’t know if he should laugh or cry. It was fine if the task involved killing someone, w.a.n.g Yu could bring the whole of Quan Zhen Sect to deal with it. Asking him to find a hundred over years old old man was simply too difficult.

However, the old stonesmith had already stated clearly that he would only help w.a.n.g Yu if w.a.n.g Yu helped him out first.

It should be known that w.a.n.g Yu’s City Lord Quest could not be rejected nor failed. Thus, in order for him to continue his progress, he would have to help Javier out.

Even though w.a.n.g Yu didn’t want to do such a troublesome task for the old man, he could only grit his teeth and accept it.

At the same time, another system notification appeared.

“So all it requires is to find the inheritance… I thought that I needed to help him find a person… Thank G.o.d.”

Upon seeing this quest content, w.a.n.g Yu involuntarily wiped off some cold sweat on his forehead, heaving a sigh of relief in his heart.

Seems like this small little coincidence was an intentional twist planned by the game developers. After all, normal players wouldn’t be willing to take on the quest of looking for a person. If w.a.n.g Yu were to reject the request, his quest would have ended at that very moment.

In order to trap the players, the game developers had resorted to such measures.

Clearly, the so-called “inheritance” was the piece of stone slab in w.a.n.g Yu’s hands… As to why w.a.n.g Yu was able to obtain the quest item before accepting the quest, w.a.n.g Yu had more or less guessed the reason why.

Fearless’ deduction was correct. They needed to ask a professional as to the reason why the city walls were damaged, and clearly Javier was one of the keys to this quest.

Void Blade had received this quest early in the morning, and thus the chain of quests had already been activated…

The City Lord Quest, as its name suggested, apart from the manager of the city, also involved the City Lord. Thus, it was no wonder why someone like w.a.n.g Yu, who was outside of the quest, would be able to loot the quest item.

Now that such a scenario has occurred, no one could blame w.a.n.g Yu for interrupting mid-way. One could only blame Void Blade’s players for being too stupid. Heck, they were still waiting at the foot of the wall for something to happen. Now that the quest had been hijacked by someone else, they were still oblivious to it.

Thinking up till this point, w.a.n.g Yu took out the stone slab and pa.s.sed it over to Javier without hesitation and said, “This is what I found at the summit of the mountain, I think it is related to your great-grandfather, Arthur.”

After receiving the stone slab and studying it for a bit, Javier immediately exclaimed in joy, “That’s right, this is my great-grandfather’s stone slab… Many thanks to Your Highness City Lord for helping me to find what I needed.”

“F*ck…”

After seeing Javier’s att.i.tude after receiving the inheritance, w.a.n.g Yu was stunned once more…

This old man only cared about the inheritance that he wanted, and didn’t bother about the location of his great-grandfather.

There were always flaws in the characters of the lower-cla.s.sed NPCs, and couldn’t be compared to the complex characters of the NPCs with higher intelligence.

After receiving the stone slab, Javier’s body started to emit a dazzling glow. Shortly after, the name above his head changed from “Stonesmith Javier” to “Master Javier”. At the same time, the aura surrounding this person had completely changed. The initially sluggish gaze of his had become one filled with life and vibrancy.

It seemed like the stone slab was an item to raise his cla.s.s, causing him to turn into an NPC of higher intelligence.

w.a.n.g Yu, who was situated at the side, asked him once more, “Can you help me out now?”

Javier bowed towards w.a.n.g Yu and said, “Javier is willing to do his utmost to serve his respected City Lord.”

Just when w.a.n.g Yu was receiving Javier’s bow, Captain Don’t Open Fire, who had initially accepted the quest, received a system notification.

“F*ck! What is going on?”

Upon receiving this notification, Captain Don’t Open Fire’s emotions were in a mess.

Reputation, was a City Manager’s lifeblood and its maximum value was 100. Once it dropped below 60, the citizen NPCs living within the region which was managed by that manager would start to develop some dissatisfaction. If it dropped below 40, there may be chaos resulting from high levels of dissatisfaction from these NPCs.

As the City Manager of the west side of the city, Captain Don’t Open Fire’s initial reputation was only at 60 points. After numerous days of hard work and investing in the development of the west side of the city, he finally managed to raise it to 80. Who would have thought that all of a sudden, it returned back to its original level? The miserable feeling that Captain Don’t Open Fire was feeling couldn’t be described simply with words. Enraged, he immediately sent a message over to Big Bear Deng Deng An, “What’s going on? Why did the quest fail?”

“This… it’s Iron Bull… When we were doing the quest midway, he suddenly appeared and forcefully s.n.a.t.c.hed it away from us.”

Big Bear Deng Deng An wasn’t a fool, from the tonality of Captain Don’t Open Fire, he could tell that he had screwed up big time this time around. Thus, he decided to simply blame everything on w.a.n.g Yu.

It seemed like Big Bear’s method was truly effective. The moment he heard that it was w.a.n.g Yu who had stolen the quest, Captain Don’t Open Fire’s initially enraged mood was instantly calmed down.

After remaining silent for a moment, Captain Don’t Open Fire asked, “He merely stole the quest? Did you cause any trouble for me?”

“No… I didn’t.”

Big Bear was speechless. He didn’t know that w.a.n.g Yu was such a good excuse to use.

“That’s fine then. Get everyone to come back, and make sure not to cause any trouble…” Captain Don’t Open Fire helplessly swallowed this grudge and gave the order.
