Chapter 345: All Was Fine

Gu Chaoyan smiled and nodded. She had already decided to marry Zhou Huaijin a long time ago and never hesitated in this aspect. Zhou Huaijin was the person that treated her best, and he liked her too, so she left him to arrange everything.

Now she had proved herself skilled enough to save the Young Duke, so she should have saved some of her own reputation among the public too.

“How is the Young Duke, I heard that he is seriously injured?” Zhou Huaijin asked as he took a seat next to Gu Chaoyan. Since she had already agreed to marry him, Zhou Huaijin did not have to keep mentioning it. She might look like someone with a calm personality, yet she seemed to be very bashful in that aspect. Look at her, she was still flus.h.i.+ng! Zhou Huaijin was thinking as the smile remained on his face.

As this serious matter was mentioned, Gu Chaoyan showed an even more serious expression. “The arrow was right by the heart, one more inch and he would have died right on the spot, totally impossible to revive. Now he survived, but he might not be as active and healthy as before. But nothing else matters, as long as he manages to survive.”

Gu Chaoyan felt that the Young Duke was indeed not meant to die now. It was just a matter of inches and he would have died. And luckily that arrow was not poisoned... a slight mistake in the process, like if the Dean did not feed him the pills, and he might not have revived so fast either.

Hearing what Gu Chaoyan said, Zhou Huaijin let out a sigh of relief too.

“Thanks for saving the Young Duke.” Zhou Huaijin said, “Duke North died young in the battlefield, leaving Mrs. Duke North and the little Young Duke alone in this world. During the past few years, they have had a difficult time living at the Duke North’s Mansion. If he pa.s.ses away, the Duke North’s Mansion would definitely be swallowed by those intimidating people of the Zheng Family.”

At that time, Mrs. Duke North might not be able to survive either.

Duke North did not live an easy life, but Zhou Huaijin expected that the Young Duke would be able to support the whole family.

“Was Duke North a very respectable person?” Gu Chaoyan asked.

Those who had talked with her, including the Dean and Zhou Huaijin, seemed to talk about Duke North’s Mansion with an admiring tone. So Duke North must have something to do with that.

Zhou Huaijin nodded. “North Qi invaded us constantly. If not for Duke North, the northern part of our country would not have been as peaceful as it is now. So Duke North was a very respected man among the civilians in the north.”

The north was barren, much poorer than in the south, and the court never paid much attention to that area either. Only a strong-minded man like Duke North had been willing to keep the civilians protected at the cost of his life. This man was truly respectable, and that was why he cared a great deal about the Young Duke.

Gu Chaoyan now understood why the situation was the way it was.

She patted Zhou Huaijin’s hands. “Don’t worry, the Young Duke should be fine.”

Zhou Huaijin smiled. “You have worked so hard today, and you must be very exhausted. Take a break, you may have to work even harder with the Young Duke tomorrow.”

Gu Chaoyan was indeed a bit exhausted. She had not felt the exhaustion until Zhou Huaijin reminded her. However, she looked back at the day and found that she had not stopped working for one second.

So she asked Sword One to enter the room. She needed to take a bath now.
