Princess Lyn: Fleeting Dreams

Chapter 284

Rhys seemed very reluctant to tell her since he kept looking away from her. In the end, he simply hugged her tightly, "Uh, Rhys?"

"..."

Lyn sighed, what use is there hiding it from her? She will eventually find out, anyway. "Well, I"ll get going then," she still felt very uneasy, leaving him alone. But she did come here to check on Mother. This may be the only time she will get a chance to see her Mother.

Rhys nodded and started to walk away in the opposite direction. Lyn turned away too, but after a few seconds, she heard rapid footsteps heading back to her. "Rhys, whats—" her sentence fell short when he hugged her from behind. His lips grazed her ear.

"Thank you."

Thank you? Lyn was about to ask him what he meant, but Rhys was already walking away. It was only after she was sure that Rhys had already gone did Lyn realize what he was about to do. It can"t be, right?

.....

Year 4014 Central Town - Backalley-

Lyn had never gone out when it was night before in the Mist Kingdom. So she didn"t realize how bad the mists were - but now that she got a look she understood. It"s no wonder people don"t go out late. If they do, they"ll pick an inn nearby to stay at instead of going home. The Mist had surrounded the entire place; it was hard to identify the streets and houses. But Lyn made her way through, regardless. After some time had pa.s.sed, she felt the presence of other people, and the sound of fighting.

Hesitantly Lyn made her way towards the source of the sound. In a few minutes, she eventually arrived at an alleyway. In the center of a pile of bodies was Rhys. The surrounding aura around him was beyond deadly, and the scent of blood was heavy.

"Rhys…?" Lyn called out.

Rhys whipped his head in her direction, "Lyn?"

"Um, say.. I…"

She what?

Rhys sighed, "Wait a moment, I"ll come over there, and we can go back."

She could only stand there and nod dumbly. Lyn couldn"t mistaken his change in tone. Just now, there was something frightening in his eyes and aura. Was that just her imagination?

Before Lyn could say any more words, she felt somebody grab hold of her leg. Lyn looked down and saw one of the people on the ground had woken up. The look in their eyes screamed malice and Lyn tried to break free. But it was too late, a bright glow surrounded the man, and the ground shook.

"I"ll just drag you down with me."

It happened all in a flash before she could get dragged down by the guys magic. A pair of familiar scrolls wrapped around her like a wall - separating her from the man and s.h.i.+elding her away. By the time the scrolls came down, all she could see was the remains of what was there. The sight was beyond brutal, and the one who did it was… "Rhys?"

Rhys had left the pile of bodies and was making his way over. His ma.s.sive strides in this darkness and Mist, made her heart feel heavy. Something felt wrong, but she didn"t know exactly what it was. By the time Rhys reached her, Lyn knew that he wasn"t happy with her.

"Why on earth did you follow me?!" Rhys exclaimed. "I told you to go back for a reason!"

"I was just concerned, I…" Lyn looked over at the bodies sprawled across the floor. Even without getting a proper look, she knew all those people were dead.

"You what?"

She...why did she come here? Wasn"t she concerned about Mother? Why did she chase after him in such a hurry? Fat chunks of rain fell from the sky rapidly, only increasing the intense atmosphere between them.

Lyn hesitantly took a step forward. She knew it would be dangerous to approach Rhys with his current mood. But before she knew it, her feet were already dragging her over to him. Despite her now blurred vision due to the heavy rainfall. Lyn didn"t stop until she was standing directly in front of him. But just as she was moving towards him, Rhys was moving towards her. In the next second, he has her pinned against the wall.

Her back touched the now damp wall and soaked through her clothes. But, that didn"t matter to her. A dangerous look flashed through Rhys eyes, eyes filled with hatred. "I don"t understand you, why? Why do you keep appearing before me, why even though I already pushed you away?"

It"s then Lyn realized it. Even though she thought they had made up, they actually hadn"t. It was only temporary. Rhys was only pretending things were okay for her sake. But deep down he was holding it back, holding back so many bitter feelings. Lyn wanted to say something, anything but the words couldn"t leave her lips. What could she say in this situation? What are the right words to say to someone who is in even more pain than her?

The pain in his voice was evident as his hands brushed against her cheek. "The more you appear before me, the more you make it worse for yourself. You..do realize that what your doing is making you look ridiculous. Since you love Kazuya, don"t care about me so much. Unlike Kazuya, I won"t live for much longer, anyway."

Lyn"s eyes widened, "You ..that"s…"

"I intend to take revenge Lyn, that"s why I partic.i.p.ated in this plan. Even if it kills me, I"ll stop at nothing to make sure the plan succeeds."

She didn"t know what to say to that. Lyn thought she already knew the extent of his pain. But how could she? Today was the first day where she learned of the grudge Rhys had against her family. Today was the first time she saw it, his pain, the coldness of his hands — the shadow across his eyes. Even though Rhys has been there for her this entire time, she didn"t know anything about him at all. It"s the same for Kazuya; she didn"t know that serious side of him.

How could she claim to know these people, but act so surprised when they do something different? She"s such an idiot. This person standing before her is the same person she got to know this entire time. But, at the same time, he"s different. His hands left her palm, and he grabbed her shoulders. His grip was so powerful, and she immediately felt the pain in her shoulders.

"Such a powerful grip.." Was Rhys always this strong? While Lyn knew that he was holding back in his match against Pupillam, this was the first time she has seen this. So Rhys was holding back, so was Kazuya. Lyn always believed that the two of them showed her everything from the start. That they kept no secrets from each other.

But of course, that can"t be. No matter how close they get to each other, the fact that she is their enemy doesn"t change. Their enemies.. of course, they didn"t tell her everything. The trust and faith that she thought existed was all a delusion. It was all a lie.

Then this entire time, exactly what has she been doing? She knew she didn"t have any right to cry. It"s Rhys who is in pain right now, Rhys who wants to cry. "Your such a fool," Rhys mumbled. His hands left her shoulders, and he traced the tears falling from her eyes. "I want to hate you, but I can"t. It would be easier to use you as a p.a.w.n to take my revenge, but I just can"t do it. I"m going to rush to my death regardless, so I don"t want to burden you any longer. Hey, tell me, Lyn, do you..do you like me?"

"This isn"t the time," and they both knew it. Of course, this wasn"t the time. But when will it ever? Lyn didn"t know anymore. Her head felt all muddled.

"I see," Rhys flashed her a sad smile. "You really can"t be mine. If so, then don"t follow me anymore. I"ll get you killed. Lyn, you belong to a place filled with light, return to Kazuya"s side."

Why is he saying these things? Isn"t it painful for him? Rhys closed the remaining distance between them.

His lips were crus.h.i.+ng hers. It was nothing like the previous kisses that they shared. Lyn could feel his sadness his grief behind the kiss. Her wrist hurts, and unlike before he is not asking whether she was okay. Such an intense sadness, his pain… It"s unbearable.

Before Rhys could do anything else though. "Move, and I"ll hurt you." A sharp voice cut through the alleyway.

Despite the heavy rainfall making everything blurry, Lyn immediately knew who it was. "Kazuya?"

"Step away from Lyn, Rhys."

Rhys pulled away from her and Kazuya called out, "Lyn, come here."Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click for visiting.

But Lyn only froze, she saw Rhys pale face - how deadly cold his eyes looked and grabbed hold of his hand. "I..I..let"s go back to the castle, okay?"

It was quiet, but Rhys mumbled a reply, "Okay Lyn…"
