Princess Lyn: Fleeting Dreams

Chapter 464

*UNEDITED*

Mist Kingdom- Month J-  Manor Ball

To change the Kingdom, to change the empire as Lyn was a naive thought. She knew that from the very start.  But ever since her brother took her to the battle field, Lyn has thought this way. If there is something she can do for the people. Her mother is not a bad ruler, even now Lyn thought that way. Neither was the previous King. The only reason why so many people hate her mother is due to her defending the previous King.

What traits does a good leader have? It differs per person. But one of the key characteristics is charisma. A charismatic person

She thinks she may have taken this Princess role a bit lightly.

Lyn thought she understood the meaning of revealing her ident.i.ty. But it turns out that is not the case after all. Back-to-back meetings, greeting people, inspections and an entire load of paperwork. She never thought she would be this busy.

"This is my favourite song, let"s dance."

Allen reached over and grabbed hold of her arm. "Are you done messing around? Your favourite song, what happened to the last one?"

Lyn sighed. "But when you get all silent and broody I get bored."

"Didn"t you say I could act how I please when we are together?"

"We are still in public."

"But I did say that to him." Lyn sat back down on her chair. She does not understand the meaning of such gatherings. No matter how many times she attend these events, Lyn found it pointless. To think the life of an elite is like this. A deep sigh crossed her lips as her gaze fell on the sight before her. She felt a particular dark gaze on her and glanced over at the source.

It was one of the women who she was speaking with earlier.

"A friend?" Allen asked.

Lyn laughed. "I"m still new to this circle, do you think I would have any friends here?"

"I"m aware."

"It makes me wonder what she is looking at. This expensive dress that is too heavy and restricts my freedom to move. These jewels that do match the outfit, and only serve the purpose of showing of my wealth. Or," she turned to him. "Perhaps it is due to the person beside me."

Allen sighed. "You do not have to pay any attention to them. But just so I would know, who is that?"

"Anne Accius."

"..."

Lyn saw a strange look on his face and chuckled. "Did you hear her name before?"

"I have. I didn"t know she was a real person."

"Aha," she laughed. "I understand. Aren"t you lucky? Your future wife is so pretty and wise. She can deal with jealous girls despite living isolated for so long."

"That is true, you are cute."

At that comment her eyes widened. She didn"t think he would say something like that. "I underestimated being a Princess, but it seems I underestimated Allen"s feelings for her too."

A part of her understood it a long time ago too. Allen probably likes her. All the time she spent convincing herself that he didn"t like her was a sham. It was all a lie.

"Anyway what"s with this party? Isn"t it more boring than usual."

"I understand that you don"t like to judge people by rank. But this is expected from a family with a third rate family."

"Hmm, but the other parties aren"t any better."

"You won"t find a single party that you would like." Allen trailed off. " I hate to inform you that these parties are every bit boring."

Lyn sighed and she slumped her head on his shoulder. "If I attended these gatherings alone, I would be very bored. But I think I can survive because you are here with me."

"Indeed, you are a foolish person." Allen commented. "When will you tell me the real reason why you are fooling around with Rhys?"

She raised her eyebrow. "Did I even give you a reason for Rhys?"

"You didn"t, but it isn"t hard to tell."

"I think I like him."

She glanced over and saw Allen"s poker face vanish. He looked distressed. "Does that bother you? I fell for two other men at the same time."

"No." Allen shook his head. "It"s understandable given your situation."

"Are you trying to say I fell for them because I was lonely?"

Allen sighed. "I didn"t mean it that way. Tell me Lyn, is your goal still the same?"

"It has changed. I want to be the Queen now."

"But your actual aim?"

"As a whole it hasn"t changed. But, I guess my methods and the feelings behind it differs now. Hey Allen, there is still some time right, before I become you"re wife."

"There is." Allen nodded. "Is there something you still have to do?"

"Yes, just one thing." She mumbled.

There is just one thing she has left to do. But it will take time before she achieves that.

"By the way, that necklace your wearing. Did my grandmother give you that?"

"Yes." Lyn nodded. "Another expensive family herolim? She knows all the rumors and is clearly uneasy. But still gave it to me."

"I have to apologize for that. She is bribing you."

"I figured."

"Then, why did you wear the necklace? Why did you accept it?" Allen questioned. He leaned forward. "As I thought, just give it to me. I"ve been looking at it all night and it bothers me."

"A piece of jewelry can"t tie me down."

Allen chuckled. "I cannot wait to see you explain that to my grandmother."

Lyn rolled her eyes. ""As my future husband, you should be responsible for explaining my unusual behaviour. Besides, where are your relatives? This maybe a third rate party but they should be here." Her gaze fell on her eldest brother who just entered the room and blinked. "It seems eldest brother Andrew came, and not second brother."

"Is it that surprising?"

"A little." Lyn admitted. "For events like this I learned that they do not siply invite one member of the family."

"Correct, there is usually more than one member per household attending such gatherings. Do you understand why?"

"So they build up their connections?"

Allen nodded. "There is that explanation but also a more simple one. It is the coerce the one who was invited first into saying yes. In every family there is somebody you do not get along with and can make you agree to anything due to the difference in power. The purpose of this ball tonight seems to be you."

So that is why her eldest brother is here. That old rumor about her not getting along with him must still be around. Truthfully for awhile that was the case. Lyn recalled the first day she met Rhys after so long was the day she spoke to her eldest brother after so long. The atmosphere of that dinner was terrible and she felt suffocated the entire time.

But when n.o.body was looking Andrew helped her out. He has a cold looking face, but he cares for her. His actions are questionable and they do not agree on a lot of things. Yet Andrew has secretly protected her from her eldest sister. The reason why she could spend such peaceful days with the general and Pupillam is most likely because of him.
