Chapter 27: Weird Child

“Yeah, it serves her right; it’s called bad karma.” The other girls in Cla.s.s 5 senior cla.s.s had obviously heard about Wu Wenyun bullying Chi Shuyan, so they hacked her without mercy. There were others who were originally concerned about Chi Shuyan’s mood, but seeing her relaxed and unaffected, they joined in the roasting at ease.
“I don’t think so. Good men die young while the scourge live for thousands of years. I heard my dad say that he once had a boss who used to be a poor kid. He established a business by relying on his father-in-law, who owned an antique dealer’s business, and now that he has started earning profits, he drifted away. He’s keeping a mistress and clamoring for a divorce. He’s got an illegitimate son who’s even a year older than the main wife’s son. But, isn’t he living and flouris.h.i.+ng well now?” w.a.n.g Wanting retorted. She had never given a d.a.m.n about this retribution theory.
“That kind of man is disgusting.”
“No, worst of all, I went to tutor for that family and something seemed off with that kid.” w.a.n.g Wanting pointed to her brain along with her explosive revelations. “Every day, he yells about eating raw chickens and ducks and drinking raw chicken blood. It’s awful how he devours raw meat and drinks blood like an uncivilized savage.”
“Gee, that’s really savage. Is he possessed or just sick in the head?” Ning Xiaoting asked curiously.
“I don’t know, I reckon it’s a mental problem. The family pays a high fee, 300 or 400 a day, but I was afraid to go. That kid is just too weird, so I recommended a friend to go.” As soon as w.a.n.g Wanting finished speaking, her phone rang. She went out to a quiet corridor and answered it. When she came back, she patted the nearest student, and deliberately exaggerated, widening her eyes to draw attention to herself. “Do you know whose phone call I just answered? It’s the friend I recommended as a tutor for that weird kid.”
The girls who were gossiping about other topics were instantly drawn. They knew she was deliberately trying to whet their appet.i.tes, but their hearts itched nervously. They were gripped by curiosity that they guessed one after another.
“Did that kid scare your friend and she quit?”
“That kid didn’t eat raw chicken again, did he?”
w.a.n.g Wanting nodded and shook her head, feeling satisfied and proud at the expectant and curious eyes of the crowd. She paused to entice them before saying, “As soon as my friend went to that kid’s house, she saw the kid eating a live chicken without even plucking the feathers and biting off the chicken’s neck! Also, the kid’s eyes were strangely mysterious, in short, unchildlike. If anyone tries to stop him from eating chicken, he’s going to do all sorts of self-mutilation, either knocking himself against the wall or table or smas.h.i.+ng a bowl.”
“Then, with his savage way of eating, wouldn’t he rapidly swallow bacteria into his stomach? Shouldn’t they visit the gastroenterology department?” A girl worried.
w.a.n.g Wanting also marveled, “I think they went for a checkup before, but the doctors said his digestive tract was fine. Humph, that’s not the point. The important thing is that the kid is missing and the family is desperate to find him.”
“How did he go missing? Didn’t you say his family isn’t quite rich?’
“Yeah, his family lives in a big villa. I think the father came back and saw the kid eating like that and beat him up for embarra.s.sing him, and then quarreled with the child’s mother. From there, I don’t know what happened, but the kid went missing.” w.a.n.g Wanting sighed, “So my friend was sent away. That kid is a little weird, but he’s pretty cute. He’d be screwed if he encounters a human trafficker.”
The bunch of girls felt sorry for him, and their topic skewed somewhere else while Chi Shuyan’s eyes flashed upon hearing the story.
In a black car, two unshaven men in their forties sucked and puffed smoke, which wasn’t at all conspicuous in the dark night.
“Boss, this kid hasn’t eaten all day, do you want to get him some food?” The thinner man looked over at the tightly sealed and bound child under the back seat.
“Idiot, what’s there to pity when he’s going to die. We’re going to kill him after we get the ransom and finish this job anyway. If this kid dies, it’s just as well. That woman will still pay us handsomely.” The fatter man knocked the thinner man.
“But, Boss, this kid’s family seems to be rich and powerful. We asked for a 100 million ransom and that family didn’t say no to it. I’m afraid they won’t leave the matter at that if we kill him.” The thinner man worried.
“You’re dumber than a pig, you fool. We’ll be in trouble if we really let this kid live. The guy who introduced us to this deal is the kid’s father’s mistress. Besides, I checked. This kid’s father doesn’t even like this mentally ill kid, when he’s got a healthy b.a.s.t.a.r.d outside. If we help them with this problem, they won’t be happy enough.” The fatter man chuckled: “But in all seriousness, that woman looked soft and weak, but is actually tougher than men like us. I originally wanted to sell this kid to the mountains, but the woman wouldn’t let me and insisted that we get rid of him.
“Is there such a cruel father?”
“I’ve told you that this kid is a G.o.d-awful windbag and mentally r.e.t.a.r.ded, while there’s another healthy illegitimate child. Ruthlessness is the mark of a truly great man,” the fatter man explained impatiently. “When the h.e.l.l will it be dawn?”
Lin Haoxing in the back seat actually woke up long ago. Hearing the two kidnappers’ exchange, his delicate tender face was suffused with panic while tears and terror filled his large, dark glazed eyes. If it hadn’t been for his sealed mouth, he might have cried out. He sniffled and closed his fan-like eyes tightly for fear of alerting the two vicious kidnappers.
“Huh, why is there someone here at this time of the night?” The thinner kidnapper saw an approaching figure in the rearview mirror and freaked out.
The fatter kidnapper was alarmed, but when he saw that the figure approaching in the rearview mirror was a pet.i.te, dainty little girl in a red dress, he spat out a breath and cursed, “You’ve got the f*cking guts of a rat. It’s just a little underage girl, not a cop.” Having gotten a good look at the girl, he rubbed his hands and laughed lasciviously: “This little girl looks darn pretty and fresh. She’s a wayward runaway at a glance, but a petty gain for us. It’s been a long time since I’ve played with a woman. She’s just in time for fun.”
The moment the thinner man heard him, he echoed ingratiatingly, “Hahaha, that’s a good idea, Boss.”
