Chapter 307: Li Sangyu’s Unease
Song Zhongsheng said innocently, “What else can I be doing? I’m sharpening a knife! Don’t you and Hongmei like the roast mutton leg? I was going to give you some roast mutton chops to try!”
Song Zhongsheng said with a very natural expression, “Celestial Master Li, Hongmei’s family hasn’t used this knife in so long. There’s nothing I can do about it! Celestial Master Li, what’s wrong?”
As Song Zhongsheng spoke, Li Sangyu’s eyes never left him. She saw that he was indeed sincere and calm, and didn’t look fl.u.s.tered, and his explanation made sense.
Li Sangyu heaved a sigh of relief inwardly, but her right eyelid kept twitching. For some reason, she had a very bad feeling about the Zhao residence, especially when she saw Song Zhongsheng, the ghost.
Li Sangyu gritted her teeth and took a closer look at Song Zhongsheng in front of her. After confirming that there was no black aura on him and that he was completely unlike a malicious spirit, she heaved a sigh of relief.
“Sorry, I was making a fuss over nothing!”
Song Zhongsheng said sincerely, “It’s fine. Celestial Master Li, go hang out with Hongmei in her room. We’ll eat the cake after midnight!”
“Midnight?” Li Sangyu was startled.
Song Zhongsheng explained, “Actually, Hongmei’s real birthday is after midnight. She’s been saying these days that you’re her best friend, Celestial Master Li. You won’t say no, right?”
Li Sangyu didn’t know if she should regret coming or something else, but considering her close relations.h.i.+p with Zhao Hongmei recently, she could only say, “Okay!”
Song Zhongsheng said, “I’m relieved that Hongmei has a good friend like Celestial Master Li!”
Preoccupied, Li Sangyu turned around and left after speaking to Song Zhongsheng. When she left, she still looked back with lingering fear, afraid that the knife would suddenly fall on her head.
When she returned to Zhao Hongmei’s room unscathed, Li Sangyu thought that she was probably overthinking it. There were times when you could be frightened by your imagination.
If Song Zhongsheng was a malicious spirit, she would have taken action the last time she was at the Zhao residence.
Thinking this, Li Sangyu was finally relieved.
Zhao Hongmei had gotten impatient while waiting for her, but her voice was still gentle as she said, “Sangyu, is my house too big? Did you take a wrong turn?”
Li Sangyu replied, “Mm. Fortunately, Mr. Song gave me directions!”
Because of Song Zhongsheng’s thoughtfulness recently, Zhao Hongmei wasn’t worried that Li Sangyu would steal him away. Besides, Li Sangyu still had someone else in her heart.
Most importantly, Zhao Hongmei believed that she and Official Song were truly in love and couldn’t be separated.
The two chatted in the room. At first, Li Sangyu was still in the mood to chat with Zhao Hongmei. As time pa.s.sed, however, her right eyelid twitched even harder for some reason.
Her heart tightened and she felt inexplicably uneasy. She looked at the clock on the wall and saw that it was five minutes to midnight.
Li Sangyu gritted her teeth and thought that nothing would happen to her if she left. She would leave immediately after celebrating Zhao Hongmei’s birthday in five minutes.
Zhao Hongmei said embarra.s.sedly, “Sangyu, you waited so long for my birthday. Why don’t you stay at my house tonight?”
Li Sangyu gritted her teeth and refused firmly. “No need! I have to go back later. My master is waiting for me!”
In her heart, Zhao Hongmei didn’t really want to keep Li Sangyu, the third wheel, so she didn’t say much when she refused.
Five minutes pa.s.sed in the blink of an eye. Seeing that Song Zhongsheng hadn’t come in yet, Zhao Hongmei was about to get up, when Li Sangyu said, “I’ll go take a look outside. Maybe Mr. Song wants to prepare a surprise for you!”
