Chapter 87: Zheng Shujun’s Luck Is Borrowed
Ning’an First Middle School, college entrance exam.
“Did you bring your exam permit? Did you bring your 2B pencils? And five 0.5 black pens…” Chi Lingyan examined Chi Shuyan’s transparent pencil case again and again, and was relieved when he was sure there was nothing missing.
Chi Shuyan looked at her tall and st.u.r.dy father, who was turning her transparent pencil case around in his hand to examine it seriously as he murmured nervously to himself, then burst out laughing. “Dad, I’m the one taking the college entrance exam. Why are you nervous?”
“This girl, treating good intentions as ill intent.” Chi Lingyan knocked Chi Shuyan lightly on the head, then rubbed his own chest in a fl.u.s.ter. Afraid that he would affect Chi Shuyan, he did his best to calm down. “Don’t panic when you go in. If you encounter any questions you can’t answer, put them aside first and then look at them carefully. Remember not to hand in your paper early, and check a few more times.”
“Okay, okay, I got it. Dad, you go home and wait. The flowerbeds here are full of bugs and mosquitoes.” Chi Shuyan felt somewhat helpless. Her father was too unlike himself today. Looking at the sea of nervous parents, Chi Shuyan urged Chi Lingyan to go home.
“Shuyan, Shuyan!” Li Xiaoting waved at Chi Shuyan from afar.
“Dad, my friend is calling me. I’m leaving.” Chi Shuyan said goodbye to Chi Lingyan and ran over.
“Hehe, we’re in the same exam room.”
“Where’s Shujun?”
“Oh, she’s in the exam room next door. Don’t worry about her, she has company.” Li Xiaoting’s expression was neither cold nor indifferent, but Chi Shuyan could tell at a glance that something was off with her. “What’s wrong? Did you have a quarrel with Shujun?”
Zheng Shujun sat in front of Li Xiaoting. After Chi Shuyan, Li Xiaoting got along the best with Zheng Shujun in cla.s.s, so Zheng Shujun and Chi Shuyan’s relations.h.i.+p was pretty good.
Li Xiaoting was silent for a while and didn’t speak. As they walked down the corridor, Li Xiaoting raised her eyes and saw two people coming toward them from the other direction. She suddenly sneered. “She climbed a high branch and doesn’t care to be friends with us at all.” She pursed her lips as she spoke.
Chi Shuyan looked in the direction Li Xiaoting indicated and happened to see Zheng Shujun and Feng Yanli coming over arm-in-arm.
“Xiaoting.” The moment Zheng Shujun saw Li Xiaoting, her body stiffened. She struggled free of Feng Yanli’s arm and was about to go forward to talk to Li Xiaoting, but Li Xiaoting turned her face away with a flick of her ponytail and went to the exam room.
“Shuyan, you’re back?” Zheng Shujun greeted Chi Shuyan apprehensively.
“Shuyan, you’re so mean. Everyone went to my house for a party, but you didn’t come,” Feng Yanli said in a strange tone.
“What’s wrong with your face?” Chi Shuyan ignored Feng Yanli and looked at the pimples that had broken out on Zheng Shujun’s originally delicate white face, her fair skin now much darker with brown spots.
In contrast, Feng Yanli on the side was in high spirits. Her face was rosy and her coa.r.s.e yellow skin had become much fairer. Even the perennial pimples on her face had faded quite a bit, and her skin had become fair and smooth.
“Nothing; it’s probably because I haven’t been properly balancing my studies and rest lately.” Seeing that Chi Shuyan didn’t ignore her, Zheng Shujun sighed softly and touched her face consciously.
Feng Yanli was livid with rage when she saw Chi Shuyan ignore her directly.
Chi Shuyan looked unblinkingly back and forth between Zheng Shujun and Feng Yanli, and the more she looked, the more she found it strange. It was as if their situations had switched completely. Zheng Shujun’s appearance now coincided with her appearance in Chi Shuyan’s previous life. A terrifying guess immediately formed in her heart, and the warmth in her eyes gradually dissipated.
“Okay, Shujun, let’s enter the exam room.” Feng Yanli originally wanted to greet Chi Shuyan as if nothing had happened, but she couldn’t take Chi Shuyan’s cold stare, and urged Zheng Shujun to go instead.
“Oh, okay.” At Feng Yanli’s urging, Zheng Shujun waved at Chi Shuyan as she walked forward. “Well, see you, Shuyan.”
In that moment when Zheng Shujun turned around, wisps of black cadaveric qi swirled around her back. Chi Shuyan was stunned. She clearly hadn’t seen any cadaveric qi on Zheng Shujun just now, and she immediately reached out and grabbed Zheng Shujun just as she touched her arm.
All of a sudden, a series of images appeared in her mind. First, she saw a few people shoveling dirt in the middle of the wilderness as they dug a huge pit with a black plastic bag next to it. Once the pit was dug, one of the men walked over and picked up the black plastic bag with one hand to throw it into the pit.
Halfway through, the black plastic bag tore in half, and with a thud, something black and round rolled out of the plastic bag.
Chi Shuyan focused and her eyes widened. That round, ball-like thing was magnified in her mind and she clearly saw that it was a head of hair.
The messy hair covered half the face, which was stained with blood, and terrifying knife cuts and b.l.o.o.d.y froth covered the cheeks. The eyes, which died with remaining grievances in them, were ghastly and terrifying.
Even though this head was disfigured and stained with blood, Chi Shuyan could tell that this was Zheng Shujun!
