Chapter 238: Each More Arrogant Than The Next

“From now on, Qingqing will be the Eldest Young Mistress of the Dugu Family.” Dugu Heng glanced at Dugu Xing again. “I hope that she and the rest of the Dugu Family descendants will get along well.”

Dugu Xing was very influential among the younger generation. He couldn’t be by Su Huiqing’s side always.

It was best if Dugu Xing could acknowledge Su Huiqing.

Dugu Xing just cast a scornful glance at Su Huiqing. Every single one of the descendants had depended on their own abilities to carve out a place for themselves. Why should this person be given a free pa.s.s just because she was Dugu Heng’s daughter?

“I will do my best.” Dugu Xing lowered her eyes. Just one word from Dugu Heng was enough to wipe out all of her hard work.

Seeing Dugu Xing’s deferential manner, the others couldn’t help frowning and murmuring.

Especially when they saw Dugu Heng introducing Dugu Xing to Su Huiqing.

“Master Dugu, you have gone too far.” This time, even the usually amiably seventh elder couldn’t help speaking up. “Ms Xing is the prodigy of her generation. Making her give way to Su… Eldest Young Mistress… I have always respected you but you are now abusing your power. Don’t you think you have gone too far?”

The atmosphere in the hall was somewhat tense.

Dugu Heng surveyed the people calmly, before resting his gaze on Su Huiqing for a moment. The harsh corners of his lips twitched.

Those elders were all nervous and jittery, but Su Huiqing was the total opposite.

She was wearing her earphones and was leaning lazily against a pillar. Her snow-white shirt accentuated her flawless face. Eyes lowered, she looked very nonchalant.

Dugu Heng suddenly recalled something that Su Ruohua told him. Su Huiqing did not care for the t.i.tle of Eldest Young Mistress. No one could force her to do something she didn’t want to.

At the beginning, Dugu Heng only half-believed her.

But now, he finally believed that Su Huiqing truly didn’t care much for the Dugu Family!

“What do you mean abuse of power?” Dugu Heng’s voice turned chilly. Anyone who dared to interfere with his plan to acknowledge his daughter—he would teach them a lesson they would never forget. “I have given up my slot to you guys for the past 20 years. It was done out of goodwill. It is only fair for me to take it back now. Are you now taking it for granted just because I have allowed you guys to take my slot for so many years? Or perhaps because of this, you think I can be easily pushed around?!”

Welcoming Su Huiqing and her mother into the family should have been a joyous occasion. He never expected the elders to throw such a dampener on the mood.

Dugu Heng actually didn’t wish to openly berate these elders in front of Su Huiqing.

But since they were so reluctant to welcome Su Huiqing, there was no point in him enduring their att.i.tude.

Su Ruohua was mildly surprised by his speech. She had always found Su Huiqing’s domineering and resolute character somewhat strange. It was totally unlike the Su Family style. Now looking at Dugu Heng, she realized how alike the two of them were!

Su Ruohua couldn’t help ma.s.saging her temples.

Everyone in the Dugu Family was suppressed into a fearful silence after Dugu Heng’s outburst.

It must be pointed out that Dugu Heng was someone whom even the commander-in-chief had to be careful of!

Dugu Heng snorted and drew out his sword. “You will have to give her that slot, whether you like it or not!”

No one in the hall dared to speak.

Dugu Xing clutched Dugu Jiyun’s hand tightly. She gritted her teeth, but kept her expression under control as she looked at Dugu Heng. She had strived so hard for so long to achieve this spot. Why should she give way to this commoner? Just because she was not Dugu Heng’s daughter? Just because she didn’t have good parentage?!

So she had to give way?!

Who the h.e.l.l did she think she was?!

So biased! This was just too unfair!

Dugu Jiyun could feel Dugu Xing’s rage. She patted Dugu Xing’s hand before glaring fiercely at Su Huiqing. Su Huiqing’s earlier charm had been a farce after all!

Dugu Heng glanced at Dugu Xing and said mildly, “Dugu Xing, you must remember who was the one who first gave you that slot.”

Dugu Xing just stood there stubbornly.

She refused to acquiesce. “Master Dugu, you are giving my spot to her just because she is your daughter. You wish to make it up to her, but what about me?”

She gave a bitter laugh and turned slowly. She said in a melancholy voice, “Never mind. I will give up my spot to Eldest Young Mistress. I wish her all the best.”

Dugu Heng frowned. What did she mean by give up?

This slot had been his all along. She had been occupying it for so many years without even a word of thanks, but was now saying such things?

Dugu Heng’s hands trembled in rage. He started to raise his sword.

Su Huiqing noted Su Ruohua’s expression and couldn’t help rolling her eyes. This mother of hers only had eyes for her husband now.

She sighed as she walked forward to hold down Dugu Heng’s hand.

No one else saw this movement. Dugu Heng glanced at Su Huiqing in shock. He had been using all his strength, and he knew that no one would be able to restrain him when he was angry, not even the elders.

But Su Huiqing was able to hold him down with just one hand.

Nevertheless, Su Huiqing had no time to bother about him. She took off her earphones, looking very cool and composed.

Surveying the crowd, she stated simply. “You decide the time.”

“What time?” The first elder had been stunned by Dugu Heng’s action. He only snapped out of his trance when Su Huiqing spoke.

Su Huiqing rubbed her ear impatiently as she looked at the first elder with one eyebrow raised impudently. She looked even more arrogant than Dugu Heng now. “Haven’t we been talking about competing all along? You decide the time. I will do it.”
