Chapter 1 Don"t Run Away, You thief
Chapter 1 Don’t Run Away, You thief It should have been ablaze with lights in the evening, as many people liked to hang out in such a modern city. However, in the old blocks, Jiang Senyuan was a little frightened by the quietness. Walking on the worn-out road of the alley, only the chirp of some mice surrounded her. “Could you please sell this apple to me a little cheaper?” Jiang Senyuan asked the owner of a small store, her voice sounding void in such a silent corner. “I will buy more things next time I come here.” It was all Ji Xiaotiao’s fault. She had just been paid this month’s salary from the fast-food restaurant and now she would buy an apple for her. Though unwilling, she had no choice—she had literally lost her underwear in a bet with Xiaotiao. She had to try every way to get that back. Though it was new, it could make her lose face if Xiaotiao showed it to any one else, because this was the first time that she bought underwear with a Donald Duck print on it. While complaining her in heart, she felt a strange hug from behind. Somebody’s arms caught her tightly. “Stranger!” she called out without thinking. She knew n.o.body on this block, so this had to be an unfamiliar person with bad intentions. Her cry was drowned out by loud, crisp footsteps that came from one end of the corner. “Buy me some oranges. I hate apples,” the person hugging her said. He forced her head at an angle so she could not look back. “What?” Now she saw his face, and he was a good-looking guy. Though hiding in the dark night, she could see he had a good shape. He had sensuous single eyelids and a thin face, and a cold emanating from his eyes that was both charming and vulnerable. A black wind coat added some more mysterious qualities to him. Senyuan tried to turn back again. This time he did not stop her, and she saw the policemen behind him chasing him and knew the source of the loud steps. Now she understood that he had done something bad and he was asking her help in this way. Charmed by him, she decided to help. “Oh, boss, give me two oranges.” “That way, quick.” After saying this, she heard the policemen directed into another direction, where they ran and soon disappeared. He released her with a light sigh. “Now can you put down your arms?” Senyuan asked him. “Oh, yes. I am sorry. That was serious just now.” He lowered his arms awkwardly. “Then who you are? Why are you being chased by the police? Oh, you aren"t a bandit . . . ?” She was suddenly aware of what she had done just now and became afraid. Leng Muxuan thought about her question for a while and then replied, "Thanks for helping me, but I am not the bad guy you imagined. I simply have the disease of being obsessed with stealing things. As you may have found out, I failed.” “It was a phrase I"ve heard for the first time.” She looked forgiving. “Then I will go my way,” he said. “Wait.” She stopped him. “You should pay for the oranges.” Leng Muxuan was stunned by her suggestion. Senyuan cared not about his surprised expression. I saved you because you are a handsome boy, but it is not my duty to pay for your fruit. She reached out her hand to him to make the request clearer. Leng Muxuan tried to find some money from his pocket, and his face changed to a weird expression. “You see, I went out to steal, so I did not take my wallet . . .” Senyuan suddenly understood why people always said that good-looking people were not smart. What did it mean that, for the sake of stealing something, he had no need to bring his wallet? Senyuan took out some cash for the storeowner for the fruit. What a bad day! She cried in heart. “Would you please . . . lend me . . . 500 Yuan? I have no place to stay tonight,” he said. “Could you be more shameless?” Senyuan cried. “I have saved you and you did not thank me at all. Let alone the oranges, you still want to borrow money from me? Is your face a pa.s.s for lending money?” “Okay, forget it. Let me try to steal some money for tonight.” He shrugged. “Wait, what did you say just now?” “To steal some hotel expenses,” he said without any emotion. “Stop it!” she said with a steady voice. “I don"t understand what the obsession of stealing means. I saved you just now, so how can you return to it again? If you want to do this, I am happy to send you to the police.” He did not think that she had such a sense of justice. He played poor. “Then what shall I do? I have nowhere to live. And I did not eat anything for today. Didn’t you realize that I was fainting when I ran to you just now?” Fainting? She thought he was fast and swift, but she was persuaded by him. “But if I give you money today, how do you plan to spend tomorrow? Will you continue to steal again and again?” He nodded. “The disease is something that I can"t control.”
