Chapter 124 Dare I Ask the Heavens, Do Immortals Exist?
“Don’t ask. Let’s leave before we talk again.” The purple-clothed maiden’s eyes were filled with fear.
The bottom of lake was completely dark. Specks of light flowed out of his body like a lamp lighting up the water.
The huge green rusted palace disturbed his heart. An extremely special fluctuation came from it.
Ye Fan carried the purple-clothed maiden away, following the underwater current. Over seven weird waxed corpses floated out of the ruined walls behind him.
“Faster!” Her eyes welled with tears as she stared pitifully at him, her face snow white.
Ye Fan wasn’t a hot-headed person. In a situation he didn’t understand, he naturally wouldn’t take risks. He swam up, wanting to leave the bottom of the lake.
However, above him was a terrifying aura that covered the sky, causing both of them to feel horror. A huge shadow that completely filled the s.p.a.ce above them slowly floated over.
Ye Fan was barely able to endure it. The bright light around his body flickered and disappeared, causing the purple-clothed maiden to almost drown. The two of them were driven down by a powerful force that slammed them back into the lake bottom.
“What thing is that?” Ye Fan was completely bewildered. His powerful divine sense scouted out, completely disappearing. The dusk above them seemed like a huge monster swimming over.
He unwillingly carried the purple-clothed maiden in another direction before once more trying to rise out of the water. However, the same thing occurred. A murky and frightening black hole was moving above them with some devilish air. A huge pressure like a mountain descended upon them, making it so they could barely breathe. Ye Fan felt as if divine lightning was hammering into his body. He once more sunk to the bottom, unable to rise at all.
“Just what kind of thing is that? Is it alive?” His gaze hardened, feeling as if this was far from encouraging.
With the purple-clothed woman’s divine energy sealed, she powerlessly fainted within Ye Fan’s arms when she repeatedly met these powerful pressures.
“Wake up.” Ye Fan shook her.
“It’s over. We won’t be able to escape.” Her face was without the slightest color. Her lively eyes were filled with intense terror, no longer as charming or witty as she used to appear.
The enormous shadow looked like an ancient beast from the beginnings of the universe, a boundless dark cloud that covered the entire lake. There was no way for him to charge through. Ye Fan wanted to find that underground river to return to his original route, but he was no longer even able to find it.
“Don’t try looking for it anymore. That river doesn’t really exist. It’s been called the Ethereal River. Once you exit, it disappears and there’s no way to find it again,” she sobbed.
Now, every single direction was locked down and there was no way to leave. Ye Fan no longer tried and carefully asked for details. “What’s going on? What kind of place is this? What is the origin of the Bronze Immortal Palace?”
She miserably sighed and cried. “Waahhh…I don’t want to die. I’m so smart and beautiful, completely unrivalled. I haven’t even had a chance to s.h.i.+ne and have my name shake the Eastern Wastelands yet. How could I die in such a place?”
“Less narcissism. Hurry up and speak.” Ye Fan wasn’t polite. Light appeared above his forehead.
“The Bronze Immortal Palace has only appeared in ancient history a couple times. It’s origin is mysterious and no one understands it. Once someone accidentally enters this place, there’s no way out…”
“Will we actually die here?”
“It’s the tomb of many peerless peak experts. Every time it appeared, it would shake the Eastern Wastelands. Peerless figures were like moths to the flame, recklessly charging towards it, only to all die.”
“Why?” Ye Fan didn’t understand.
“According to legend, this grand bronze palace was made by Immortals. Over countless years, it seems almost no one in the Eastern Wastelands has reached Immortality. Those figures who have reached the peak summit of the Immortal path naturally can’t withstand this enticement.”
Ye Fan sucked in a cold breath. This Bronze Immortal Palace seemed to have a huge history.
“Continue speaking in detail.”
After being overcome by fright earlier, she had now calmed down quite a bit, but she was still dispirited. Wrinkling her nose, she said, “Long before the Ancient Desolation, it had already appeared…”
“It’s that ancient…” If it was like this, then the Bronze Immortal Palace must have existed for over half of the Eastern Wastelands’ history.
“The legends say it was made by Immortals, but there’s no proof. Over countless years, it has only appeared four or five times, and many peerless figures have been buried within it.”
According to what she was saying, the Bronze Immortal Palace was very mysterious. Every time this remnant appeared within the lands of the Eastern Wastelands, it would appear in a different place, following the movements of the Ethereal River.
“The legends might not be truth. There must be a way to escape.” Ye Fan pondered it before asking, “Carefully think about it, is there anything else you forgot to say about this place?”
“Everything I know about this place is from what I saw from ancient texts. There were only a couple lines written down.” She seemed to think of something, saying, “There might have been a time…”
She had accidentally heard of a certain legend that in some era when the Eastern Wastelands was prospering, several shockingly talented peak figures were alive when the immortal palace appeared. Back then all those peerless people joined hands to s.n.a.t.c.h a corpse out of the bronze palace.
“It’s said that it was the corpse of an Immortal…”
Ye Fan’s heart was shocked, exclaiming, “There really are Immortals?”
She shook her head, saying, “That wasn’t recorded within the ancient texts. It’s just that this saying has been pa.s.sed through the Eastern Wastelands. Its truth cannot be verified.”
“Where did the Immortal corpse end up?”
“It seems…that the Sacred Lands and Ancient Desolation Families split it up equally.”
“So something like this happened…” No wonder it had been called the Bronze Immortal Palace. It seemed it really did have some connection to Immortals. He immediately thought of the Ji Family, asking, “Then does that mean your Ji Family has a piece of the Immortal corpse?”
“It’s said that countless years ago, my family received an Immortal’s arm, but none of the Elders within the clan would admit this. In any case, I’ve never seen it.”
“Even if it was true, how could they tell a tiny girl like you?”
“Hey, little brother, don’t act so proud of your age. You’re not even as old as me.” She cast a resentful glance at him.
Ye Fan laughed inside. Pinching her pretty nose, he said, “I’m a senior who has lived for ten thousand years. How can a little girl compare to me?”
This grand palace was boundlessly imposing. The green rust was engraved with the aura of countless years pa.s.sing. Ye Fan circled around it a couple times, but he didn’t dare enter into it.
When it unexpectedly appeared, several peerless figures would be buried within it. It was impossible to determine its origin. No one was able to walk out of it alive, making it even more mysterious.
Ye Fan fixed his gaze at the ruins’ waxen corpses, trying to find some clues from them.
“Those corpses are probably those peerless experts from former days…” The purple-clothed maiden’s body was continuously shaking. “Let me go. I’ll also go look for clues.”
If these really were peerless experts from ancient times, he might be able to find precious treasures on their bodies. He peeled off some of the wax on one of the bodies, immediately exposing a lifelike human body. This was a female Daoist, as pretty as flowers. She looked as if she were merely sleeping, appearing extremely lively.
However, in just a second her rosy face became wizened, her flesh dried up and she became a human skeleton. With a ripple of the water, the skeleton was shattered and nothing was left behind.
“This is…”
“The most frightening power is time. Without achieving Immortality, no one can block it. This corpse has survived for countless years. It’s only because it was wrapped in a mysterious energy that it was able to be preserved to this point. Once the real body is exposed, it will naturally not be able to exist anymore.”
Ye Fan continued to peel the wax off more of the corpses, each resulting in the same thing. As soon as they were revealed, they crumbled into dust.
Just at this moment, Ye Fan once more felt a strange fluctuation from that huge bronze palace. “Not good, we have to get out of here!”
Carrying the purple-clothed maiden and rus.h.i.+ng away, he wanted to flee in time. But a huge power engulfed them and started to tear them apart.
“AHH, run!” the purple-clothed maiden screamed in terror. The two of them were now being pulled back to the bronze palace!
Ye Fan did all he could. His Sea of Bitterness erupted and his Spring of Life surged, his divine energy pushed to the limit, but he was still unable to break out of their bindings. The bronze palace seemed to possess a strange magical might that sucked them inside.
BANG!
The two of them crashed on the ground within the bronze palace. It was huge and empty, silence hanging heavy in the air. The dark murkiness made it impossible to see much.
They were unable to find the palace gates. It was like they had arrived at a desert. There was no life force here. Time seemed to have stopped in this place, almost like they had reached the end of the world.
“I don’t want to die. How could I, Ji Ziyue, a peerless talent of the world, fall here before reaching Immortality…”
“Can you be less narcissistic?” Ye Fan rolled his eyes.
The dull mist that lingered here was very dense. The ends of the palace could not be seen.
Kacha!
The sound of chattering rang through the air, and the purple-clothed maiden immediately called out in fright, “What did my foot just touch?”
A snow-white corpse was on the ground, its whole body covered in cracks. It had been lying there, and with just a slight touch it shattered into pieces.
“This person was definitely incomparably powerful when alive. Without that mysterious power to protect him, his bones were still preserved to now.” Ye Fan was startled, and squatting down, he carefully examined the remains.
There were a couple dried up characters written in blood. They were dark-red and vague, but possessed an inexplicable charm. It was as if all of that expert’s vitality, Qi, and spirit had been condensed in order to leave behind these words. It gave people an extremely particular feeling that pa.s.sed on the mindset of this person.
“Dare I ask the Heavens, do Immortals exist?” Although it was only a couple words, they were filled with the endless regret and unwillingness of this person as he faced death.
For his bones to have survived after all these years, this was definitely a peerless figure from countless years ago. But even as he was about to die, his heart was still so muddled. It was easily to see just how much regret and disappointment he felt about never being able to pierce through the mist and reach the clear skies again.
