“Don’t even think about running away!” The elder closest to Bai Yang was the first to react. He threw up his hand, throwing something. Bai Yang felt something bite him on the neck, a slight stab of pain, and that was it.
Bai Yang was too focused on running away and ignored it. He disappeared into a black cloud of smoke.
The elders continued to chase after him. Bai Yang crushed the talisman in his hands, instantly activating the formation he had prepared and trapped them in the mountains.
He rushed back to the Demonic Realm. However, about halfway, he felt his chest constrict and his vision went black. He fell, limp, from the sky.
There was a swath of mountainous forest below him. He crushed a few trees upon landing, painting a sorry picture as he emerged from the wreckage. He spat out a mouthful of blood, and a fit of dizziness overcame him.
I can’t faint now!
Bai Yang repeated those words to himself. The Jade Cloud Pearl had the Soaring Cloud Sect’s imprint on it, and the formation he’d activated would only last so long. They would find him soon.
He staggered forward two steps, but the dizziness was unbearable. He found a spot to meditate for a while and recover his cultivation. Through the meditation, he discovered that he had fallen into a trap. His entire body was in pain, and his meridians were blocked.
Forget it. He needed to get out of there. He had already prepared for the worst. Not only had he set up a pre-prepared formation in the mountains, but he had also sent a few dark guards to meet him at a halfway point. If he could get a little further, he would be at the agreed meeting s.p.a.ce. However, he had never expected that the Soaring Cloud Sect would use such overbearing methods to deal with him. Whatever poison this was couldn’t be easily remedied.
Just as he prepared to hurry on to the stronghold, a few figures appeared in the sky, flying towards him.
“Stop!”
Sect Head Zhao and the others had already found him.
Bai Yang tried to summon his cultivation to teleport away. However, his meridians were blocked. He was powerless.
Bai Yang suddenly remembered the moment that small bug had bitten him. He instantly understood what had happened.
f.u.c.k, in all his thousands upon thousands of calculations, he had not thought the other party would poison him!
Bai Yang felt bitter.
He was in an extremely difficult position with no one to help him. Was he about to meet his end here?
He had expected that he would die or be killed by the Demon King, or get erased by the System. He had never expected to get killed by these people!
He was on a sinking ship with no land in sight.
He couldn’t use his cultivation, so he’d been reduced to the level of an ordinary mortal. He was completely unable to deal with this group of elders.
He grabbed his chest, using all of his energy to stagger away.
Seeing Bai Yang’s attempt to flee, Sect Head Zhao rushed down and directed a palm of energy at his back.
He had been furious enough when the pearl had been stolen. Now, after being played a fool, Sect Head Zhao’s anger was at its peak. That palm carried with it the entirety of his energy. In Bai Yang’s current state, he would be unable to bear it.
If that palm hit its target, Bai Yang would die for sure.
What to do what to do what to do?
He should be able to dodge it, but he couldn’t. Bai Yang was about to lose it.
Xiao Ling was screaming in his head, “Dodge! Dodge it, ah!”
“I can’t dodge this!”
Bai Yang was frantic.
Sect Head Zhao came closer and closer, closer and closer, until Bai Yang could see the fury on his face, as well as the bulging of his eyes. Then, suddenly, a sudden gust of violent wind slammed into the Sect Head’s palm.
The wind pushed Sect Head Zhao’s palm aside. The blast of energy diverted and hit a swath of nearby trees. There was a loud bang, and all of the trees in the proximity were blown to pieces.
Such power!
If Bai Yang were to be hit by that, there probably wouldn’t be anything left of him.
Bai Yang felt some lingering terror.
“Who?!” Sect Head Zhao roared, slamming a palm into the air.
“Hmph!” A cold voice echoed from above. A black silhouette appeared from the sky, slamming a palm into Sect Head Zhao and knocking him to the ground. Too much force had been used, and the skidding impact of Sect Head Zhao created a long ditch in the ground.
Bai Yang looked up into the sky. His pupils widened, and then he spat out a mouthful of blood.
Someone appeared at his side. They took Bai Yang’s by the waist, and then the two of them flew into the air and fled the scene.
Bai Yang’s vision was blurry. After being poisoned, his body’s condition was quickly deteriorating. His rescuer traveled at incredible speeds, making Bai Yang feel like he was on a rollercoaster, and about to throw up.
Perhaps sensing that something wasn’t right, the person carrying him stopped on a flat patch of ground. “What’s wrong?”
Bai Yang threw up another mouthful of blood. After spitting it out, he felt much better. It was then he got a clear look at the person by his side.
“Your Highness, what are you doing here?” Before leaving, he had contacted the dark guards. They were supposed to be his support!
He thought that his rescuer was perhaps a subordinate, or even Lou Jian Feng, but he had never, ever expected that his Highness the Demon King would come to a place like this.
Then again, last time he had caused a big mess in the Soaring Cloud Sect and was about to be beaten to death, it had been the Demon King who had rescued him then, too. This time it was the same. He didn’t know if it was a coincidence or something else.
“You sneak into the human realm without alerting anyone, then end up like this. What were you trying to do?” The Demon King’s voice carried a trace of anger.
Bai Yang thought he was being criticized. He quickly said, “I’m sorry, Your Highness.”
He’d already made plans for when the Demon King would become enraged at him. Bai Yang already knew what to say to abate his anger.
“This subordinate left his post without permission. Your Highness, please punish me.” He tried to kneel onto the ground. He knew the Demon King’s real temperament. While others called him cold and unfeeling, he treated Bai Yang well. He didn’t believe he would really be punished.
“Don’t!” As expected, before he could kneel, the Demon King pulled Bai Yang against his chest.
This position was a little strange. However, Bai Yang was injured and too lazy to argue. First, there was something important he needed to do.
“Your Highness,” Bai Yang said, pulling out the Jade Cloud Pearl. His hand trembled as he gave it to the Demon King. “This is the Jade Cloud Pearl. With this, you won’t have to worry about qi deviations anymore.”
Hehe! With this pearl, the Demon King would have no reason to punish him.
Based on what he knew of the Demon King, he wouldn’t pry into the circ.u.mstances of his disappearance.
Sure enough, upon seeing the pearl, the Demon King’s pupils widened and his expression changed.
“You came to the Human Realm just for this?”
Bai Yang, who was already in a weakened condition, effortlessly pretended to be even more feeble. Weakened people gained sympathy from others. This was an unchanging fact through the ages.
Scheming, Bai Yang said, “Yes, Your Highness. The night after you entered your qi deviation, I saw that you were in great pain. That’s why I went to the Human Realm to collect the pearl. Your Highness, quickly, take it.”
He looked up at the Demon King’s face, waiting for his expression to turn grateful.
Who would have thought—
“How ridiculous can you be?” The Demon King’s face not only wasn’t as grateful as Bai Yang expected, but even seemed to be angry. “Did you get my permission to do this kind of thing? I am the great and stately owner of the Demon Realm, do I need someone like you to come to the Human Realm to steal this kind of thing? You are a grand guard, commander of many troops, and for a pearl like this you reduce yourself to this kind of half-dead state. Absolutely ridiculous!”
Bai Yang felt stupid after being yelled at so violently.
Huh?
Huh? Huh?
Huh? Huh? Huh?
Why was the plot he’d imagined different than expected? Wasn’t the Demon King supposed to be extremely moved and say things like you’ve worked hard, you have integrity, I’m so grateful?
Okay, so even if the Demon King was proud and arrogant, and wasn’t the type of person to say these kinds of things, shouldn’t he at least smile or something? Why was Bai Yang being scolded instead?
This kind of treatment was too disappointing!
“Your Highness…” After being scolded, Bai Yang still didn’t know what he had done wrong. He couldn’t think of any excuses. He could only obediently say, “I know I’m wrong. I won’t do this again. However, everything I did was for you.”
Before he tried to make excuses, it was bearable. Afterward, the Demon King was only angrier.
“For me? Humph!” The Demon King snorted coldly. “If it was for my sake, then take care of yourself. Don’t put yourself in danger, and don’t let yourself get hurt!”
Bai Yang opened his mouth, then realized that whatever he would say would be wrong, so closed it again and said nothing.
He thought he understood the Demon King, but the Demon King’s reactions were vastly different from what he’d expected.
It was so hard to communicate with him.
His chest burst with pain again. Bai Yang furrowed his brows and grabbed his chest.
The Demon King’s expression changed. He couldn’t bear to be angry with him anymore, and his expression turned to worry. “What happened to you?”
“I seem to have been caught in some dirty trick of theirs. Something bit my neck,” Bai Yang gasped.
The Demon King looked at his neck.
Bai Yang couldn’t see what his neck looked like. His head tilted limply to one side and he asked, “How does it look?”
The Demon King sunk into deep thought and said nothing.
“Your Highness?”
“Come with me,” the Demon King said. Seeing Bai Yang’s sickly, limp state, he became infuriated again. “I’ve only been gone for a few days! The moment I stop looking at you, you get yourself into trouble.”
That first day, he had followed Bai Yang to the Human Realm. However, because he had unfinished business in the Demon Realm, he had gone back. After finishing his work, Bai Yang still hadn’t returned. Thinking about how he’d gone to have fun out there for a few days and come back, the Demon King had been a little angry and had returned to the human world in the hopes of dragging him home. He didn’t expect he would come to save Bai Yang’s life in the nick of time.
He thought back to the scene just then. If he had been late by even one second, Bai Yang would have died in that grove of trees.
The thought terrified him.
And this guy told him it was for the sake of the pearl that he’d reduced himself to this state. To hear that it was all for him… how couldn’t he be angry?
He’d already learned his lesson at the Soaring Cloud Sect! And then he reoffended!
After thinking about it, the Demon King wanted to pinch him to death.
He was happy that Xie Ze Tian seemed to love him so deeply, but he was also extremely worried.
But seeing Xie Ze Tian’s sickly appearance, the Demon King could only swallow his anger to the pit of his stomach.
What would he do with this guy?
Saying he wasn’t moved would be a lie. However, his anger and fear were stronger. He was afraid that if he was late by even one second… Xie Ze Tian would be gone.
Of course, Bai Yang didn’t know the twists and turns deep in the Demon King’s heart. He only thought that he’d been wronged. He had risked his life to get that pearl, and now he was being scolded for it.
Aware that something was wrong with Bai Yang’s body, the Demon King set him down. He found a spot nearby and used a formation to hide his and Bai Yang’s qis. Then he examined Bai Yang’s body carefully.
Bai Yang obediently let the Demon King look him over. They sat in the formation, the Demon King sitting behind him and guiding demonic cultivation through Bai Yang’s meridians. When his magic flowed near Bai Yang’s heart, he felt a burst of agonizing pain.
“Is it here?” The Demon King’s voice trickled in from behind, worry obvious in his tone.
Bai Yang had rarely met anyone who worried about him. When he heard the concern in the Demon King’s voice, he felt overwhelmed.
He nodded his head. “Your Highness, it’s there. Do you have any questions?”
For a long time, there was no answer.
Bai Yang turned around to see the Demon King knitting his brows in distress, as if considering a difficult problem.
