What happened next left Will dumbfounded. The other Goblins had charged the boar without any planning or strategy, and not only that, they were screaming and yelling their lungs out! The boar was immediately startled and tried charging away, but some of the Goblins had managed to surround it already. Chief was one of them, he was staring it right in the eyes. However the boar continued charging, Chief managed to roll to the side dodging the boar, but the two Goblins next to him got knocked in different directions. The size of the boar compared to the Goblins was huge, it was like a bull compared to a human. One of the Goblins who got knocked away hit a tree trunk, the sound of the spine snapping was loud and made all the other Goblins stop in their tracks. Will walked over to Chief and helped him off the ground, Chief had a huge grin on his face. "Why happy? Boar gone!" Will exclaimed with his terrible Goblin vocabulary. Chief just shook his head and held on to Will"s shoulder, "Good hunt! Only one die, boar run far, get tired." After saying this, Chief gathered up the other Goblins and they ran off in the direction of the boar while huddled together. Will decided to hang back a bit, but still followed after. [Don"t they have some kind of hunting strategy? Tiring out the boar while risking their own lives? That can"t be worth it. Just the sense of smell being this good makes them excellent trackers, but the way they use it is terrible. Even prehistoric humans did better than this, and they didn"t have all these advantages.]
As they moved through the forest, Will kept pondering on why the Goblins hunted this way and on different ways to approach this hunt. He didn"t have any previous hunting experience, everything the knew he had learned from movies or school. The Goblins had obvious advantages that humans didn"t have, the first was their size. They could easily stealth through the forest without making a sound, yet these Goblins stomped around not caring about the noise. Despite their size, they were also strong, they could grow bulging muscles. Chief was a good example of this, his muscles were very disproportionate to his body size, a Goblins body was very malleable. Another advantage was obviously their sense of smell, counting all these advantages, Goblins should be hunting masters, and yet these Goblins acted like complete amateurs.
After running for almost an hour they finally reached a small clearing with a pond, the boar was almost foaming at the mouth while lapping up as much water as it could. It was obviously tired, and the Goblins charged immediately. Will sighed while shaking his head. As the first Goblin reached the boar, he thrust his stick straight at its rear end. The stick penetrated the boar"s skin, however it didn"t go deep, the skin was tough and covered in rubbery bristles. As more Goblins arrived, most of their attacks were actually deflected by the bristles instead of penetrating the skin. The boar cried out in a panicked and started bucking, several Goblins were knocked away. The ones in the back got their skulls crushed by the hind legs, while the ones in the front got knocked into the pont. Chief was also struggling, but he managed to keep avoiding the hits from the boar, he was obviously more experienced than the rest. He managed to get a few stabs in but none of them were critical enough cripple the boar.
Will was desperately trying to think of something while watching his fellow Goblins getting injured and dying around him. He looked around taking in as much of the environment as possible, and as if a light had turned on in his head he got an idea. Will ran back into the forest but wasn"t gone for long, he came back into the edge of the clearing with a large club like branch. It was almost the size of his own body, and quite st.u.r.dy as well. He ran towards a big tree and started climbing it while still hugging the club with his left arm. Will was struggling quite a bit, however his claws dug deep into the bark as he slowly moved upwards. He reached the top and stood on one of the thicker branches, it was long and reached almost to the center of the clearing. Will held on to the club with both hands and took a few deep breaths, and with a cracking voice, screamed while charging along the branch. As he reached the end of the branch, Will leapt as far as he could toward the boar on the ground. He has to time this just right or his plan would fail miserably. Will had figured that his weight wasn"t enough to cause any major damage to the boar, and just stabbing it with a stick wouldn"t do either. So he devised this plan to use gravity to help him achieve his objective. Just as Will was about to land on the boar"s back, he swung the club down toward its head.
*CRACK*
The boar let out a gurgling roar, and stumbled forward in a dizzy manner. All the Goblins looked confused, they had no idea what had happened. Chief however, figured it out almost immediately and charged the boar again. This time the boar didn"t resist, it didn"t fall down, but it just stood there as if it had received a shock. All the Goblins followed suit and crazily stabbed at the boar. It took almost an entire minute before the boar finally fell to the ground dead. Will rolled off the back and onto the ground, he just lied there panting while looking up at the orange sky, the sun was starting to set. The Goblins were ecstatic, and Chief let out a roar. They surround the boar and together lifted it up above their heads, as they started moving back towards the cave, Chief just walked over to Will with a ma.s.sive grin on his face and picked him up over his shoulder. Will didn"t resist, climbing the tree with that huge club had taken almost everything out of him. He made a note to himself to train harder once they got back. Will laughed to himself as he remembered that Chief used to carry him around like this when he was still little, [That was only 3 weeks ago.] he thought as he dozed off.
