Chapter 305: No Escape

“Tan Mo still has to partic.i.p.ate in our researches. She won’t have the time to help with yours,” Professor Zhao said frankly.

Professor Yue was rendered speechless by his colleagues once again.

After a moment of silence, he finally said, “Are you two going to keep her to yourself forever until she graduates?” Professor Yue was completely frustrated as he hadn’t had the chance to have Tan Mo help with his research.

“We aren’t keeping her to ourselves,” Professor Guo countered. “It’s just that there’s only so much time that she has. How is she supposed to make time to help with another subject? Don’t forget the fact that she’s starting her junior year this year and it’s going to get super busy for her.”

“Guo’s right. We got to her first, so it’s natural she’ll be helping us first, no?” Professor Zhao agreed with his colleague and he tapped on the table with his fingers. “You can only blame yourself for being late to discover her talents. This is her third year now, you know? You’re literally two years late.”

“Well, who would have actually expected her to be good in science subjects as well?” Professor Yue sighed disappointedly. “I thought she was just a finance student who happened to be good in language and history… I was also waiting for her to complete her research with you two before asking her to join my team so that she wouldn’t tire or stress herself out. Who knew that she was still going to help you this semester too. You guys are literally squeezing her dry.”

“Come on, what are you talking about, Yue?” Professor Guo shook his head. “Tan Mo had been part of our team from the start and has been there with us for two years. She’s literally part of the family now. There’s no reason to switch her out if she’s doing exceptionally well, right? What would other people say about me if I suddenly removed her from my team? They would think that Mo Mo had done something wrong, and it would tarnish her name. Are you sure you want to have that happen to her just so she can join your team? If you really think that she’s someone special, then you should take good care of her and protect her. If you somehow made her have no choice but to join your team because the others didn’t want her anymore, then you’ll have to hear from me.”

No words came to Professor Yue’s mind anymore. That wasn’t his intention, as he wasn’t the type of person who would resort to despicable methods.

But, after hearing what Professor Guo had said, Professor Yue started to doubt himself as well.

Professor Zhao could only look at Professor Guo speechlessly and with admiration.

Dang! He really is a language professor! Yue sure is unlucky to have run into that old sly fox.

“I agree with Professor Guo as well,” Professor Zhao said, siding with Professor Guo on the matter because he didn’t want to lose Tan Mo. “We’ll never let anyone tarnish Tan Mo’s name.”

“W…wait! You guys are mistaking me! I had no plans to do that.” Professor Yue quickly explained. “When did I say I’m planning to find a way to get her on my team? You guys were the ones who said that. What I mean is that my research is different than yours. You two need someone to help with tidying all the materials, meaning they have to be in your research room all the time. Mine’s different. My research is based on problem-solving. If we can’t solve it, we can just leave it there until someone thinks of a method. Occasionally, we’ll need a few experiments with various data to solve a problem. That’s why my research won’t take up a lot of Tan Mo’s time. She would be a good addition to my already excellent team. Take Ming Yeqing, for example. I can say for sure that his knowledge in aeronautic engineering is better than Tan Mo’s.”

“Then, isn’t Ming Yeqing enough?” Professor Zhao said without thinking much. “Why do you want Tan Mo?”

Who the h*ll would turn down additional manpower? Professor Yue thought to himself. “I mean, the more, the merrier, right? You know we lack scientific geniuses compared to Tsinghua University. If Tan Mo joined us, she could be a lot of help to us. What I’m saying is I don’t need Tan Mo to come to my research team all the time. All I hope is that she can occasionally come to give new insights. Research like mine needs more people to do the calculations and discuss the results!”

After hearing Professor Yue’s explanation, the other two professors had to agree with him. Yet, there was one big flaw in Professor Yue’s words.

“But, there’s no point in telling us this, right?” Professor Guo said. “You should ask Tan Mo instead.”

It was then that Professor Yue finally realized his mistake. It was completely pointless to talk to these two old codgers about recruiting Tan Mo into his research team.

Tan Mo was the one who had to and could make the decision, not them.

Professor Yue couldn’t only slap his own lap regretfully.

These two professors are really getting more and more sly as they grow older…

As the professors were talking, Tan Mo arrived at the canteen with Ming Yeqing and Qin Muye.

Even though Tan Mo and Ming Yeqing had been helping Qin Muye a lot ever since she became a Beijing University student, the three of them rarely had the chance to dine together.

Either Tan Mo or Ming Yeqing would be too busy to join.

However, since Qin Muye was still a freshman and had a lot of free time, Tan Mo and Ming Yeqing wouldn’t have to dine alone anymore like they usually did for the past two years.

“Oh? Isn’t that Professor Yue? Why is he sitting with Professor Guo and Professor Zhao? They aren’t even from the same faculty,” Ming Yeqing asked curiously.

Tan Mo turned to look at where Ming Yeqing was pointing and could instantly feel that the responsibility she had to shoulder was about to increase exponentially if she approached them.

“Let’s go!” Tan Mo urged as she pulled Ming Yeqing and Qin Muye away. “Don’t let them see us!”

Ming Yeqing and Qin Muye could only laugh wryly. Despite Tan Mo’s effort to try and avoid meeting with the professors, the day where she had to face them would eventually come, one way or another. It would be impossible to hide from them forever.

“Lower your head! Keep a low profile! A low profile.” Tan Mo urged, and all three of them moved toward the farthest corner as if they were thieves.

They didn’t even care if area where they were sitting was selling dishes they liked.

After buying their food, they picked the farthest table from the professors to sit down in.

Unfortunately, her plan didn’t work as Professor Yue had already noticed Tan Mo and her friends the moment they set foot in the canteen.

However, he did not approach them right away. He decided to let the children eat first as they were only 18 years old and their bodies were still in the growing process. There was no way he was going to let them starve.

After noticing that Tan Mo and her friends had sat down, Professor Yue then thought to himself, Hm…she should have eaten by now, right? Well, I don’t think she can run anymore… I mean, I should be able to just walk over and invite her to my team now, I think…
