Chapter 1 : The day I met Misaki

My name is Tendou Ryousei. A man with a stern name but a comparatively effeminate face.

Currently 23 years, unmarried, living alone in a run-down apartment with a monthly rent of 10,000 yen (100 USD).

I magnificently dropped out of middle school together with leaving home. From there, by relying on friends I kept on living through willpower. It’s already been 8 years.

If this was a great war story, I wouldn’t be able to say everything,  but my greatest achievement is this.

Livelihood Protection.

**TN Note: This is a kind of unemployment welfare program

Without me moving, every month I get 200,000 yen (2000 USD).

A long time ago there was some fuss about Livelihood Protection giving out a lot of money, but I don’t think so. Alcohol, tobacco, and gambling … 200k yen goes in the blink of an eye. When I win at gambling there’s a lot, but when I lose it quickly becomes not enough. At those times, I am tied to doing day labor as manual labor for pocket money.

Fraud? Dunno anything about that, that’s the government official’s responsibility.

Now then, telling up to here it’s obvious that what kind of human I am.

The lowest of society.

Besides that, there’s no other phrase that would describe me.

But I’d be troubled if you misunderstood. I’m not being a m.a.s.o.c.h.i.s.t, I’m boasting. With no restrictions or obligations, I can comfortably live a life without worries to my heart’s content. This lifestyle … is the best. If there’s any b.a.s.t.a.r.d who’s dissatisfied, definitely try it out.

I am enjoying this base life. I’m satisfied. I don’t desire anything. If a special event happened, a.s.suming that I even get up , all I’d think is ‘annoying’. That’s what I honestly thought.

It’s winter. In the morning, the weather was cold to the point that it numbed your hands, I was leisurely smoking in my room.

“Ryou-chan? Are you there?”

It was a woman’s voice I don’t recognize. In response to that, I opened the door. There stood a woman I seriously don’t remember, and a brat.

“What”

I don’t recognize her but calling me ‘ryou-chan’ she’s probably an old acquaintance.

… No wait. After I dropped out of school, we messed around for a little while. When I say messed around, I don’t mean the stupid s.h.i.t kids do like going to karaoke or the arcade. I don’t remember her name, but it was that kind of relationship. So, why is she here?

Without ambiguity she glared at me. With an tone like she wanted to take out a gun and shoot me she said,

“This kid, take it”

“…Hah?”

“Well, with that.”

“No wait, dammit. I don’t get it.”

“We messed around a long time ago right? It’s probably yours.”

“Quit f.u.c.king around. I didn’t marry you or nothin’.”

“That right? … Eeeh, going to someone else is bothersome~”

I wanna hit this f.u.c.kin’ b.i.t.c.h…

“Then, with that”

“‘With that’ my a.s.s. Oi, wait, don’t run b.a.s.t.a.r.d!  Your car’s engine is still on, you were planning on runnin’ from the start weren’t you! Hey! Wait dammit! Wait!!”

I gallantly ran after the car while shouting, but it just resounded in the desolate neighborhood. I clenched my trembling fist while clicking my tongue and turned around. In front of my broken down apartment was the brat that was left behind. She looked at me with her child-like big eyes. I’m reeeally angry, but I’m not such a small person to yell at some brat. In the first place snapping and yelling at some brat, I don’t wanna do something that lame.

“You got something you wanna say?”

As I got closer to the brat, I looked down and said that.

Shorter than my leg, the brat craned her head up and in a small voice said,

“… Misaki. Meet you.”

TL Note: She says yoroshiku shimasu, it should be yoroshiku onegaishimasu

What’s with ‘meet you’, it should be ‘nice to meet you’… Dammit, that f.u.c.king b.i.t.c.h, she didn’t even teach that? I mean, what the h.e.l.l’s with this situation, what should I do… toh, woops. Looks like I’m glaring at her. Let’s calm down a little.

“Well, greetings will come sooner or later. It’s cold outside, go inside and get warmed up.”

While feeling like I wanted to blow up the world, I took a cigarette out of my pocket and lit it while returning to my room.

I opened the door a little but, the brat isn’t moving.

“Oi, hurry the h.e.l.l up, you’ll catch a cold, s.h.i.tty brat.”

Her mouth made a straight line, and like before, she looked up at me.

“What, if you got somethin’ to say then say it.”

“…………Misaki.”

What the h.e.l.l, you want me to say your name? f.u.c.king annoying. Just for today I’ll play along. Well… if it’s just calling her by name it’s fine.

“Misaki, hurry and come in.”

After nodding, she obediently entered the room. She walked inside, and stood at the window.

There’s no electricity or water, the room is a 6 tatami mat (about 106 square ft) wide  with half rotten wooden walls. Opposite the door is a slightly large window but, in front of it there’s a huge apartment so the scenery is the worst. Though strangely there are no leaks and the wind doesn’t come in. Blocking the rain and wind it manages to meet the bare minimum for a facility, but other than that it’s the absolute worst. That’s this room.

I don’t know ’bout other owners, but I didn’t buy any furniture. That’s why, besides the clothes thrown on the floor, having nothing in the room must be a little strange. I see, this is probably excitement. One thing or another, a 4 year old repeating the same life without worries and trying new things wouldn’t be so bad.

At the window the brat- Misaki looked up at a small sunny spot, I suddenly thought that.

Thus, this is where it all began.
